Comments about Volkl Mantra Skis 2010:

There is absolutely nothing you can throw at these puppies that they can't handle, this is the best one ski quiver ever. THE one ski quiver. I own 8 or 9 pair of skis, I love going to demo days I ski 50 times a year and no matter what I always find my self going back to my Mantras.
Here in New England the weather is totally unpredictable one morning you wake up to 10" of wet pow and the next it's frozen granular...if you ask me the folks at Volkl designed this ski for New England conditions they float, they chop and they carv like nobody's business. Before you go crazy spending your money go to a demo day at your local mountain and demo these out and I challenge you no matter your skiing level, size or weight to try to find something better for a one ski quiver...peace

Comments about Volkl Mantra Skis 2010:

I demoed this ski this weekend at Jackson and the AC 50 at the same time. The AC 50 was a great ski for long groomed runs, but was uncomfortable off piste. In contrast the Mantra was somewhat washy on the groomers, but tore the moguls and chopped snow up. I have never been on a more forgiving ski. I am 6'4" 320 and ski ver aggressively. I demoed a 177 as that was the longest ski they had and it handled everything I could give it. Very quick turning and adroit ski in the step mogulled out terrain. Performed exceptionally well in the slush and in the trees, however, I did not get the opportunity to try it in the powder. The one issue I had with it was at high speeds on the groomed. It tends to want to wash out in the tails, but is easy to speed check. It was like trying to drive an old Cadillac, which doesn't turn the power steering off at high speeds. I think this is because of its innate ability to "float".
It could have more to do with weight to ski length than the ski itself. This was not a problem by the way with the AC 50. The 50 was a whole different animal, off piste it was like trying to ride a shark, on groomed it was like flying a rocket. It is the opposite of the Mantra, in that it wants to establish and edge and carrry you throughout the turn, where the Mantra wants to float and turn quickly.

Bottom line, best ski I have ever skiied. May not be for someone who preferes groomers or high speeds. With a soft touch, the Mantra can perform well on the front of the mountain, but is best suited for steep and deep. Definitely not for icy conditions.

Comments about Volkl Mantra Skis 2010:

Pinncale is only the one word to describe this ski, after skiing 38 years, I have tried all types of skis, I am a GS guy and have found a ski that makes a 50 year old feel like I am 25, these are not for the weak of heart, hold on, lay them over and let them run, any direction, blow through the curd and powder and then let them take you to 60........

Comments about Volkl Mantra Skis 2010:

I come from a Midwestern icy conditions background but ski mostly in the West now. I needed a ski that had the flotation to take me through the trees and keep me Haiti on the backside while still offering the carving ability and grip I cannot live without. After extensively demo-ing the "all-mountain" catergory of skis I fell in love with the Mantras. Although they aren't the best performing skis in any ONE catergory, they are extremely good in almost every catergory I need, such as moderate powder, backside, crud, trees, moguls and easy terrain Parks. With regard to carving on machine groomed or ice, these skis hold their own versus the best carvers in that category
. They also have great stability at speed and good crud-busting ability!
