Product Info

Virtually unchanged over the years and still ruling the steeps, the Völkl Gotama Skis are Völkl's most versatile all-mountain performer. With a dense Multi-Layer wood core and Tough Box construction, the Gotama slays hard and soft snow alike and blasts through crust and mank like it wasn't even there. If there's only room for one ski in the quiver, make sure the Gotama's it.

Product Details

Rocker Type

ELP Full RockerVölkl matches the sidecut and flex of the ski perfectly to give it a smooth, gradual bend from tip to tail. This results in easy maneuverability in tight spaces and soft snow, but enables the skier to gain full edge contact when the ski is put on edge. Full Rocker skis have a slightly stiffer tip and softer mid-body to give you bomber stability, uncanny smoothness and easy turn initiation in one package.

Core

Multi-Layer Wood CoreVölkl freeskiing models feature a multi-layer wood core that features two different densities of wood. In the binding attachment area, a dense, ash core is used, while in the rest of the ski, the core is poplar. The more dense wood creates more secure screw retention, preventing binding pull-out, and the soft, supple poplar section allows for resilience and snap. The flex pattern is tailored to each ski model, depending on the desired performance.

Laminates

Tough Box ConstructionVölkl protects the goods (in this case the Multi-Layer wood core) with a composite and fiberglass sheath for resiliance, durability and snap.

Power ConstructionConstruction utilizes traditional vertical sidewalls and a torsion box internal layup. Used in racing skis as well as all the freeskiing models, this versatile, proven construction provides tremendous grip, stability, and a smooth ride.

Binding Compatibility

We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.

Comments about Volkl Gotama Skis 2015:

I picked these up (186 CM - I'm 6'1, 215 lbs.) just before a recent trip to Whistler, B.C. in Feb 2015 knowing full well I'd be skiing on icy hard pack with shaved sugar on top and Hawaiian shave ice granular at the bottom.(no new in LONG time). I bought this ski knowing how good my '09 Gotama was, and was looking forward to this latest, fully rockered version (not much different from the last couple of years I've read.) I figured if it didn't do well in the existing conditions, I'd demo until I found something fun for the conditions. That wasn't necessary. This ski is a blast even in non-ideal conditions. It grips ice uncannily well. While carving it feels like it's on rails. The ski transitions from turn to turn quickly & effortlessly and can be skied extremely fast without issue. Even when flat on its bases at 40+ mph there is zero tip chatter or any side to side "shovel wobble". It's great through bumps too. The softer flexing tail allows for just enough "smear" that it won't launch if you happen to get a little too far back on your tails from time to time. While taking the ski to the spring-like, deep corn snow at the bottom of the mountain, it blasted and turned through that stuff like a pro slalom water ski on a glassy lake. Looking at the side cut of this ski you would never suspect that it is capable of riding the way that it does - like a much shorter, freestyle ski...except it can go a LOT faster. I can't wait to see what this ski will do in the deep stuff and the all too common NW crud.

The only single negative about the ski is that the top sheep material is susceptible to sidewall "hang nails". I wish Volkl would come up with something more durable in the future. Other than that, this is the perfect, one-quiver ski. If you live & ski in the NW, I can't think of a better pair of boards to own.

Comments about Volkl Gotama Skis 2015:

The skis seemed fine the first couple times i skied them, then I took them to be waxed, on my three day ski trip, and the people told me the sidewall was pulling out. The third day of my vacation the sidewall completely blew. I took them to the local ski shop and they told me send them to Vockl and they would replace them. I called Vockl but they didn't seem to care a hole lot they must have this problem all the time. Moral of the story I have a broken pair of skis that didn't last me a dozen days on the mountain

Took this ski to whistler. Absolutely the best ski I have been on. Quick edge to edge, powerful through the chopped up crud and extremely stable ski in all conditions. Definite 5/5 star ski. Best in soft snow /powder.

Gotama's are easily my favorite all mountain quiver. I can rip the groomers and also rip the powder. Took not adjustment riding these. Buy these! Volkl discontinued the Gotama's after 2015. :(

Comments about Volkl Gotama Skis 2015:

I've owned three pairs of Gotamas over the last 6 years. These 2015 Gotama 194's are the best yet. The moderate full Rocker profile drives the ski like a freight train on groomed runs. The edge stability is fantastic making these Gotamas a great on piste ski, with quick response for short and long radius turns. As always these skis are my best friends on a powder day. The legendary light flotation and flick in powder are still there with noticeably better deep snow response. Vibration has been considerably dampened in this model, making long radius carved turns a joy. The extra flex in tip and tail is noticeable in moguls - yeah they do them too! You won't regret making these your one quiver ski!
