Product Info

One of the most versatile big mountain skis to come down the pike in years, the Volkl Gotama Skis continue to provide superior all-mountain performance across powder bowls and groomers alike. The ELP Rocker and Tough Box Construction give you the best combination of on and off-piste performance in the business.

Product Details

Rocker Type

ELP Full RockerVölkl Full rocker is a smooth, gradual bend from tip to tail, with matching sidecut and a symmetrical flex pattern. The Extended Low Profile (ELP) gives skiers all the benefits of extra maneuverability in soft snow while delivering smooth, sexy arcs on groomed terrain. The matching flex and sidecut on the full rocker gives you full, uninterrupted edge contact. The more the ski is on edge the more effective that edge becomes, and the resulting smoothness and predictability is uncanny.

Core

Multi-Layer SensorwoodCreated in a complex CNC milling process, a highly sophisticated milling program enables Völkl to produce wood cores with extreme precision. It is 'extended' upwards and lengthwise, and milled to form chambers for the vertical sidewalls and torsion box. The material is a blend of poplar and beech wood, and is found in Völkl's highest performing models.

Additional Features

Tough Box ConstructionTough Box Construction features a multi-layered wood core wrapped with a composite/fiberglass sheath to create the ultimate resilience and snap for Völkl’s freeskiing models. Surrounding the core in the mid-body of the ski, it adds snap, strength and binding screw retention.

Binding Compatibility

We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.

Comments about Volkl Gotama Skis 2014:

An earlier review claimed that these skis "don't perform well when trying to do short radius turns", however it's very important to note that with a ~27m turn radius, they were not designed to do short radius turns. These are solid, true all-mountain chargers; if you're a strong skier, who needs a stable ski for high-speed, long-arcing turns (be it on groomed snow or legit pow), this is an excellent choice. Yes, as that same reviewer pointed out, it's a very different ski from the Shiro... but that's exactly the point.

The Gotama is a great one-ski quiver for a strong intermediate-to-advanced skier.

Comments about Volkl Gotama Skis 2014:

Bought these after testing the Volkl Shiro at a test day in Solden, Austria. I assumed that they would be similar yet more versatile due to the waist only being 108. The full rocker makes the skis feel dead and heavy in the turns on piste. Off-piste, the ski performed well only in deep powder.
You get bounced around a lot in these skis. They are not responsive - it takes a ton of energy to force short radius turns.
Honestly, a big disappointment compared to other Volkl models I've skied. The Shiros are everything this ski isn't.

Comments about Volkl Gotama Skis 2014:

Fantastic ski! it is the perfect width to do it all. will float in powder like a ski much larger than it and can hold its own on groomers. all in all there isnt much that they cant do! People who say they feel "dead" are usually are using a softer boot and these need something stiff to drive them.
