Product Info

Volkl Gotama Skis 2012: The Volkl Gotama Skis feature Volkl s exclusive Extended Low Profile (ELP) rocker technology and a new, rounded top edge for even better manueverability in deep snow. For advanced skiers who want a playful big mountain twin tip ski that you can also ski all around the mountain as an every day ski.

Product Details

Shape

Extended Low Profile (ELP) Full Rocker gives the skier all the benefits of added maneuverability in soft snow while also delivering smooth, graceful arcs on groomed terrain. By matching the flex and sidecut with the full rocker (long, gradual bend from tip to tail) profile, the skier gains full, uninterrupted edge contact. The more you put the ski on edge, the more effective the edge becomes. The resulting smoothness and predictability is truly uncanny.

Construction

Powered by Carbon

Tough Box construction features a Multi-Layer wood core wrapped with a Composite/Fiberglass sheath to create the ultimate resilience and snap for freeskiing models. Surrounding the core in the mid-body of the ski, it adds snap, strength and binding screw retention.

Rounded top sheet is lighter, more maneuverable, and more durable.

Flex

Multi-Layer Wood Core has two different densities of wood. In the binding attachment area, a dense, Ash core is used, while in the rest of the ski, the core is Poplar. The more dense wood creates secure screw retention and stability, while the softer poplar section allows for resilience and snap. The flex pattern can be tailored to each ski model to match the desired performance characteristics.

Sensorwood Core is CNC milled using vertically laminated wood.

Binding Compatibility

We recommend a brake width that is equal to the ski waist width and at most 15 mm wider.

Comments about Volkl Gotama Skis 2012:

I demoed this ski on a big powder day. It has good rocker but it just doesn't have the flotation that you need on a deep pow ski. I liked the durable feel and it does not chatter at higher speeds. It is not the best on turns and carving. Groomers are easy and smooth, but this is supposed to be for powder, in which case, it is only mediocre. The excess length in the back trips you up at times too, so mount it accordingly. Demo it and see for yourself, it is still a very fun ski, especially if you are going to do all terrain.

    A generallly versatile ski

Comments about Volkl Gotama Skis 2012:

New for this year the Gotama has a more true camber feel under foot. This does give the ski a more responsive feel while maintaining its easy-swiveling gradual rocker that has made it so popular. It is plenty rigid for mixed conditions. I found it to be a little narrow for my liking in powder and somewhat incapable of making varried turn shapes on groomers.

    Volkl Gotama Review

Comments about Volkl Gotama Skis 2012:

I wasn't blown away by this ski but i was surprised. I had never skied the Gotama before, never ever! I was surprised at how stable it was. It didn't have as much energy as i expected but no matter how fast I went I the edges felt solid. I expected the ski to preform differently due to the camber profile or should I say reverse camber profile. I never really let it run flat but the ski never felt loose between edge transitions which added to the solid stable feel. Its not the ski for me, I prefer a little more snap and width but it will be a great fit for someone looking for an all mountain 100-110 width ski that logs equal time groomers and equal time in the back bowls, trees, bumps and fresh snow.
