The cornerstone of the Volkl freeskiing line, the Volkl Gotama Ski is one bad-ass big mountain twin. Blending deep-powder skiing with new-school style, the Volkl Gotama is a tried-and-true classic that is anything but ordinary. Featuring the lightweight Dual Layer Sensorwood Core for tons of pop and Power Construction technology for enough stability to support your every turn, the Gotama ski is your go-to freeskiing secret weapon. Now with new zen Buddha graphics, the reasons not to own the new Volkl Gotama Ski are disappearing faster than the world’s ice caps.

  • Power Construction — The tried and tested sandwich construction is experiencing a renaissance in the freeski models of tomorrow. Power Construction describes the combination of two new Volkl technologies:Tough Box and Armed Edge—a combo for the most demanding conditions.
  • Tough Box Technology — Volkl has created a new core construction process for their new freeski and telemark models, the Tough Box. In this construction method, each wooden core is given extra strength by a 4x4 FiberWrap covering. In order to obtain maximum load in all directions, several layers of thin and highly durable fiberglass bands are wrapped around the core in a cross pattern. This construction allows the binding screws to be anchored even more securely into the skis and guarantee a firm hold even under extreme conditions.
  • Dual Layer Sensorwood Core — Volkl has constructed a new honeycomb wooden core especially for the new freeski models. The secret of its special freeski qualities is found in the double layer construction:there is a thinner and very much lighter wooden core in the bottom of the ski. There’s a solid wooden core on top of this that is protected by the 4x4 FiberWraps cover. This construction not only allows a very precise sensation when riding, it’s also useful for firmly anchoring the Free bindings into the body of the ski. The bindings are effectively prevented from being ripped out by the pressure of extreme freeski maneuvers and the topsheet won't detached from the core in the body of the s
  • ArmedEDGE — Give yourself an edge! All new freeride and freestyle skis from Volkl have an extra strong edge, which makes the ski even more robust. ArmedEDGE—a toughened steel edge.
  • Increased Fiberglass Wrap in Mid-Body — Extra fiberglass wraps in the mid-body of the ski provide resistance to binding pullout.

Comments about Volkl Gotama Skis 2008:

These skis are the greatest thing ever. Besides possibly the steezes, they are arguably the best one ski quiver around. The gottama line has been refined and the ski rides perfectly. The added stiffness this year means that they are super stable at speed, while still floaty. The added stiffness also makes them fun on the hardpack. I haven't used my park skis yet this year because my gottamas work so well for everything.

Comments about Volkl Gotama Skis 2008:

I just got these in time for the last big dump at Alpental - after waiting in a 1 hour lift line patiently for fresh lines these skis didnt dissapoint - I got them a bit shorter than normal because there so wide - and because I wanted a really good tree ski - Even with the shorter length 169 they still floated me fine - Im 6'0 172lbs - Great ski for the Cascades. Cant comment on groomers yet as Ive only skied the good stuff so far but definately Im happy.
