Volkl Chopstick Skis 2012: The Volkl Chopstick Skis, with their symmetrical 148-128-148 shape and Volkl's exclusive Extended Low Profile (ELP) rocker technology, are designed to enhance switch takeoffs and landings in deep snow and backcountry situations. Go big, land deep, and experience the benefit of no back slap or face drag that only a more stout ski can provide.
Shape
Extended Low Profile (ELP) Full Rocker gives the skier all the benefits of added maneuverability in soft snow while also delivering smooth, graceful arcs on groomed terrain. By matching the flex and sidecut with the full rocker (long, gradual bend from tip to tail) profile, the skier gains full, uninterrupted edge contact. The more you put the ski on edge, the more effective the edge becomes. The resulting smoothness and predictability is truly uncanny.
Symmetrical Sidecut
Construction
Powered by Carbon
Tough Box construction features a Multi-Layer wood core wrapped with a Composite/Fiberglass sheath to create the ultimate resilience and snap for freeskiing models. Surrounding the core in the mid-body of the ski, it adds snap, strength and binding screw retention.
Flex
Multi-Layer Wood Core has two different densities of wood. In the binding attachment area, a dense, Ash core is used, while in the rest of the ski, the core is Poplar. The more dense wood creates secure screw retention and stability, while the softer poplar section allows for resilience and snap. The flex pattern can be tailored to each ski model to match the desired performance characteristics.
Sensorwood Core is CNC milled using vertically laminated wood.
Binding Compatibility
We recommend a brake width that is equal to the ski waist width and at most 15 mm wider.

Comments about Volkl Chopstick Skis 2012:

I just picked up the 185cm and mounted 1cm behind dead center. I skied Alyeska this weekend in 4-5" powder and crud. They smoked the whole mountain. They float over everything and ski really really fast. I did a bunch of research for where to mount them and the general consensus was dead center/-1cm. Just like the Volkl pros recommend. I mounted them back because I don't ski switch or spin alot and I'm happy with it, but I think a center mount would ski great too because it's at the narrowest point of ski and the middle of the flex pattern.
