Love the Mantra but looking for a quicker, lighter ski that you can toss around in the bumps and slash tree runs with in full confidence you'll make the next turn? Sounds like you're in the market for the new Völkl 90Eight Skis, a fresh new model with a 98 mm waist and Völkl's new 3D Ridge construction. 3D Ridge leaves the ski thick in the middle and under the boot, but slashes mass along the edges both ahead and behind the boot. The result is a drastically sculptured shape (kind of like an F1 car) that results in a lighter and more responsive ski that can still hold an edge and feels solid at speed. Proof that it works is evidenced by Völkl's using 3D Ridge on all of their new light skis, including the V-Werks and VTA skis.
Freeski Tip and Tail Rocker – Makes the ski turn-friendly and allows for a stiffer flex setup. Only the shovel and tail zones bend upwards, with traditional cambering in the middle.
3D Ridge Technology – This new Völkl design is the centerpiece of their lightweight ski designs from the V-Werks to the new VTA series. It features a raised center ridge with drastically thinned ski thickness at the edges, reducing inertia around the center of the ski and enhancing agility.
Tapered Tip & Tail
Multi Layer Woodcore – Völkl freeskiing models feature a multi-layer wood core that features two different densities of wood. In the binding attachment area, a dense, ash core is used, while in the rest of the ski, the core is poplar. The more dense wood creates more secure screw retention, preventing binding pull-out, and the soft, supple poplar section allows for resilience and snap. The flex pattern is tailored to each ski model, depending on the desired performance.
Tough Box Construction – Völkl protects the goods (in this case the Multi Layer Wood Core) with a composite and fiberglass sheath for resilience, durability and snap.
Vertical Sidewalls
We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.
