Product Info

Rossignol Sickle Skis 2013: The Rossignol Sickle Skis are the widest offering in Rossignol’s jib series, and with their 111 mm waist and 141 mm tip can more than hold their own as an all-mountain stick. Go from full-throttle tricks in the park to boosty backcountry airs and back again with these skis; they’ll handle it all with ease.

Product Details

Shape

Spin Turn Rocker: 100% full rocker (aka “banana rocker”) with no camber underfoot - Full rocker makes skis more playful, maneuverable and provides more float than any other rocker profile / Increases maneuverability on groomed snow, in parks and especially in powder

Extended Sidecut: Sidecut continues beyond contact point where the tip and tail rocker start / As speeds and edge angles increase, more sidecut is engaged for powerful full-length edge grip / At lower speeds and edge angles, sidecut is less engaged for more maneuverability and ease

Jib Tip: Rounder tip profile is designed for pipe and park transitions and skiing switch

Construction

Rossignol Mini Cap Sandwich is an ultra-durable construction built with wood cores, 30° sidewalls, fiberglass and high tech laminates / Strengthens the top of the ski, increasing durability / 30° inclined sidewalls improve swing weight and reduce ski’s overall weight, enhancing edging and durability

Dimensions

21.3 m @ 181 cm, 141/111/134

Binding Compatibility

We recommend a brake width that is equal to the ski waist width and at most 15 mm wider.

Comments about Rossignol Sickle Skis 2013:

I bought these for a season of skiing at Alta based upon these reviews:
    blistergearreview.com/gear-reviews/review-2011-2012-rossignol-sickle-2010-2011-rossignol-s6-186cm
    and
    http://blistergearreview.com/gear-reviews/rossignol-sickle
The 181 length is the same as the 186 length after rounding off the tip and tail of the ski.
This product has been discontinued due to inept marketing by Rossignol. With only a slight rocker, it does not appeal to the park terrain skiers who were targeted and all the wonderfull handling ability of this ski for sking powder chop crud hardpack trees moguls were lost under the skulls covering the skis and their very unusual design: 110 waist, slight rocker front and back, flat underfoot, on the stiff side, lots of sidecut.
If you can find a pair, buy them.

Comments about Rossignol Sickle Skis 2013:

I bought this ski with intentions to use in the powder as well as groomers and the park. I also teach ski school using this ski. I ski mostly in southwest Colorado. So far the ski has excellent float in the pow, but also tears it up on the rest of the mountain. I had never demoed this ski before purchasing, and having never skied a completely rockered ski, its something to get used to under your feet compared to the S7, which has more of a surfy feel. This ski basically wants to pop off of everything, which is fun. If you want a ski that you can play on the whole mountain from powder to park, check out the sickle.

Comments about Rossignol Sickle Skis 2013:

I was skiing in Big Sky, and demoed the Blizzard Cochise, and I thought that it couldn't get any better, but this ski tops it. Super stable ride, great surfy feel, and can back you up when you want to open it up. Greatly boosts confidence and is the most versatile ski I've ever used.

Comments about Rossignol Sickle Skis 2013:

I demo'ed these on less-than-ideal conditions. It was a hardpack groomer day in Eastern WA. That said, my experience was that (on the hardpack at least) these skis are pretty turny. Could be the sidecut profile. They seemed to want to track on a pretty defined radius - which gave the sensation that they were taking me for a ride. I would think that these would do much better in soft snow - the full rocker profile looks like it could be a lot of fun!

Comments about Rossignol Sickle Skis 2013:

The sickles are an awesome ski for someone who wants to be able to ski anywhere with phenomenal flotation. The only negative ive found is that they don't handle quite as well as some skis at high speeds and i wouldnt reccomend trying to big mountain ski on them.

Comments about Rossignol Sickle Skis 2013:

I've been on the same boards since 1999 and decided it was time for an upgrade. I really wanted a powder ski that would do well on the groomed. I only get up a few times a year these days and try to make those deep days hence the powder ski, but know that in the NW that isn't always the case, and I have little ones now and would need something more veritile. I think I've found it in this ski... I was able to get some fresh turns and ski the crud, these float amazingly, and push straight through the crud not missing a beat. (my old skis would get really hung up in the crud and I really had to adjust my stance all of the time on deep days) not with these they plow through it all.
These were holding a nice edge on the groomed, and when I hit a couple patches of ice, they continued on through the turn... Although they are listed as full rocker, they really hold up on edge, where as some of the full rockers seem to just hold an edge under foot rather than the length of the boards. This ski was a win win for me! Super stoked for some pow... and it looks like the cascades are finally giving us so good stuff!
