Product Info

Nordica calls these skis their "all-mountain fun sticks," thanks to their medium flex wood and fiberglass layup, low profile tip and tail, progressive sidecut and powder rocker. This innovative combination makes for a ski that remains easy to link up inbounds, but transforms into a powder machine as soon as it touches a few inches of fresh. These Nordica Patron Skis will make every day fun, freshies or not.

Product Details

Rocker Type

Powder CamRockPowder CamRock skis are built to ski powder in ways never before thought possible. With significant rocker in the tip and tail, these skis float effortlessly. By retaining a bit of camber under foot, these are still exceptionally stable and track comfortably in all snow conditions, even hard pack. The very low, broad, “Blunt Nose” design maximizes on edge snow contact while reducing unstable tip vibration that is a common in other rockered skis.

Flex

MediumProvides float and rides "fast" while still providing enough flex to allow for fast and precise turns

Core

Ash/Poplar Wood Core

Laminates

Energy 2 CarbonOffers a comfortable and playful ride with a full wood core from tip to tail and two layers of Carbon over the edges to provide maximum agility and stability in all conditions.

Sidewalls

ABS SidewallHelps dampen hard landings while decreasing vibration fatigue

Base

UHMW sintered graphite Electra Gallium

Binding Compatibility

We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.

Comments about Nordica Patron Skis 2014:

The Patron is now my go to ski. They are surprisingly grippy on the flats and hard surfaces and devour powder and the crud. I think skiing in the crud is now my favorite thing to do since these skis just ride on top; no need to check your speed or worry about snow imperfections, just ride over it and fast. Get them longer than you may be comfortable because with the rocker only a small portion of the ski is on the edge. I am 180 lbs and on the 193 and they turn like magic. Buy these.

Comments about Nordica Patron Skis 2014:

I'm 6'0", 185lbs. Expert skier, but I'm 50, so my knees aren't quite as durable as they once were. I've now had a chance to ride the Patrons a dozen or so times, and it is a great ski in almost any snow conditions or terrain. Playful, snappy and fun. It'll throw deep carves on groomed, its really fun and floaty in fresh or broken powder, and makes variable crud/powder (late on a powder day) so easy and forgiving. It feels like you're riding in a Cadillac. The rocker profile just goes over everything in its path effortlessly. My one knock on them is that if I'm pushing them on hard-pack steeps (it only happens in these conditions), the front of the ski tends to catch and release repeatedly, kind of skipping along, without holding a smooth tight arc. I've tried more and less edge pressure, but haven't been able to sort it out. I'm not sure if it is that it skies like a much shorter ski in hardpack (so less effective edge) or if it is how soft the tips are. In the end, not enough of an issue to sour me on the ski as it does everything else so well. I really agonized about which size to get in this ski, 185 or 193. I went with the 193 as I had skied my wife's 177 LaNina, and knew that the shape skied like a much shorter ski on hardpack, and I figured the added length would only help in Pow. Either probably would have been fine, but I'm happy I went 193 as I think it adds stability at speed, and I've never felt like I had too much ski in trees. I think the only area that I would prefer the shorter ski would be in bumps - but if I was skiing bumps all day, i'd have gone with a different ski. If you're smaller or ski a lot of bumps, go 185, otherwise go with the 193. I would only go 177 if you are a much smaller/lighter person. My wife is 5'6" and maybe 135-140lbs, and she's on the 177 women's version (slightly softer) LaNina.

Comments about Nordica Patron Skis 2014:

The Patron surprised me. I skid the Patron on a hard day where we stuck to the groomers. After skiing some narrower carving skis I was reluctant to hop on the Patron. I was pleasantly surprised however by its ability to carve. For such a wide ski it could really arc a turn on hard pack. As much as this fat ski held its own on the hard stuff I immediately knew I wanted to take these skis through some fluffy pillows. While I cant speak to their powder performance Im guessing they hold their own. to compare this to a relatively similar ski the Salomon rocker 2 122 I thought that the Patron could carve much more effectively. About me: 160, 5'10" been skiing for 20 years

Comments about Nordica Patron Skis 2014:

The Patron is my favorite ski from Nordica. Its waist is wide enough I can take it anywhere and know I'm covered. The day I skied this though was less than ideal for a 110mm and wider waisted skis. That's what sold me on the versatility of the Patron. It hadn't snowed in 2 weeks and if it could hold an edge in that and still feel playful and fun imagine what it can do in snow it was intended for. I like loose skis with camber underfoot. I could vary the turn shape as needed with on them and if I needed to dump speed into a tight spot it was easy to put the skis sideways and slow down without feeling like I was going to catch an edge. I also skied the Helldorado and prefer the Patron. It's just more my skiing style. I like a ski that can hold an edge and be stable at high speeds when I'm aggressive but have a big enough sweet spot that I can shift my weight around on the ski to stay balanced in playful terrain. The 185 was perfect for me and between the two mounting marks I liked splitting the difference. It helped the ski feel loose and quick edge to edge but it wasn't so far forward that I was in front of the sidecut. My one gripe is the weight, they are a bit heavier than similar skis but the weight helps keep the skis glued to the snow and less likely to get deflected around.

Comments about Nordica Patron Skis 2014:

        - I am 5'10 and 170lbs. This was a good size of ski for me in this model. I am a fairly aggressive skier, confident on most inbounds terrain. I typically ski fat rockered skis such as the atomic bentchetler. - This was not an ideal ski for the day's conditions and I would like to ski it again with more snow on the ground. However, it still performed fairly well on groomers and held an edge pretty well. It was loose enough that I could imagine it being a nimble ski in powder conditions. - I would actually like it to be a bit softer. It was flexy enough enough that it got some chatter at speed but still not enough to be playful. It's twin, the helldorado, accomplished the stiff/beefy ski side of things, so a softer/more playful patron might be fun to try. Then again, I'm sure that a more aggressive skier than I am would find the ski plenty playful.
