Line Skis Sir Francis Bacon Skis 2011: The Line Skis Sir Francis Bacon Ski is Eric’s personal quiver of one. Plenty of width for the pow, tons of stability at speed, and the agility needed to use the entire mountain as his personal terrain park. The Line Sir Francis Bacon has been updated for 2011 with a rockered tip and tail and camber underfoot for increased float in the pow and stability on the hardpack.
Shape
The Line Skis Sir Francis Bacon Ski has an early rise tip and tail 27.5cm x 15mm and an early taper tip and tail. This means the tip effortlessly rises out of powder and stays on the top while reducing tail drag and hooking in pow. The G Cut Geometry is a 5 radius sidecut with the tightest in the tail that creates powerful turn exits and less unwanted tip hooking.
Construction
Sidewall construction combines with a fatty sintered base and edge with Line’s new Thin tip that is 50g lighter per ski in the tips to reduce swing weight.
Flex
Symmetric flex and the Aspen Macroblock core make these skis durable and responsive.
Binding Compatibility
Requires a wide brake binding with a brake width between 115mm and 120mm

This is hands down the most fun and versatile ski I have ever been on. I have never been on a ski that doesn't dictate what kinds of terrain you can ski. All skis tend to have some sort of failing. The EP pro rules pow, but gets sketchy in crud; Chopsticks are great in pow and crud, but boring on groomers, etc. The Bacon however will rip anything you throw at it. Every type of snow I took it into it performed amazingly. It will float well in pow due to the tip and tail rocker and can charge through crud for the same reason. When you get it on a groomer it will rail turns like a gs ski. This ski really skis exceptionally well on any kind of terrain and lets you ski how you want to. It has a nice mid flex that is stiff enough to ski hard and fast on but soft enough to wheelie and butter on if you want to. Also, the thin tip and tail really reduces swing weight so it is a very light ski to chuck around. Overall, I would say there is nothing that could be done to make this ski better, it is the perfect one ski quiver.

I've only gotten a chance to ride the Bacon on hardpack and wasn't very impressed. It's too stiff and I couldn't really feel any of the rocker. It can hold an edge and is good for carving but that's about it. Powder might be a difference story.

Comments about Line Skis Sir Francis Bacon Skis 2011:

These are great everyday skis that carve the hardpack, float the pow pow, and blast through the chop. They are playful but also feel very stable at speed with no detrimental tip or tail chatter. The bacons feel very similar to the rossi s7's on hardpack but have a little less rocker for the soft stuff (which is partially made up for by the softer flex) and are a bit more oriented toward switch riding. My only complaint would be that the topsheets are quite weak. Go rocker or go home...

*NOW WITH ROCKER* Everyday Pow Ski

    By P Nels

    from Seattle, WA

Comments about Line Skis Sir Francis Bacon Skis 2011:

The bacon is the same dimensions as the past couple years but now it has a moderate rocker in the tip and tail. The bacon ripped on the groomers and had none of the tip and tail chatter that I felt with the Line EP pro. Its a bit stiffer than the EP and has less tip and tail rocker. The Demo binds I was one were mounted a bit to far forward and the ski felt like it didn't want to release from turns when I wanted it to. With its 115mm waist the Bacon is a big ski that could still easily be skied every day if you prefer a wider ski.

    The Baconian Method

Comments about Line Skis Sir Francis Bacon Skis 2011:

It's no consequence that the name of this ski is that of the English philosopher and scientist Sir Francis Bacon. Bacon's works established and popularized what is simply and commonly known as the scientific method, or what he named the Baconian method (there is your daily history lesson). Anyways, back to the skis...Pollard "scientifically" developed this one of a kind, quiver of one ski that definitely does it all. You want to slash some deep stuff? The Bacons can do it. Is it icy? The Bacons will hold. Freshly groomed corduroy? The Bacons been there and have done that. Incredible stability and the versatility to conquer everything. The newly designed Bacon, now with early rise in the tip and tail as well as Line's Thin Tip tech, made what was once awesome, even better. High five EP!

This ski is super fun everywhere. It has a large bag of turns and slashes to use. I found it was stiff enough to hold an edge on ice, but playful enough for powder fun. I love the added rocker. The graphic is dope!

Comments about Line Skis Sir Francis Bacon Skis 2011:

I bought Sir Francis Bacon 2011 mainly for powder. Though it's not that much powder I could find this year. I did't try a lot of skis. These pair of skis can handle powder pretty well, at least much better than my previous 80mm skis.
They are very nice on groomed trails as well. But at first few times, I feel it's a bit hard to make sharp turn, I need to put a lot of strength to make it turn compare to my old skis. It's prob my bad habits. After few times, then I feel I can handle them much better. I just need to follow the "nature" turn these skis gave to me, adjust my way to read route. It's so much fun now.

Comments about Line Skis Sir Francis Bacon Skis 2011:

Specialty ski. When the pow is epic deep and tips tend to dive, this ski is excellent. The early rise tip and fatness = excellent flotation. This was the shortest (162cm) and fattest powder ski I could find.
