K2 GotBack Skis - Women's 2011: If you thought big waists weren’t sexy, think again. The K2 GotBack Skis pack 102mm under her best and is proud of every millimeter. Throw in an All-Terrain shovel rocker and you’ve got a ski with phenomenal float and stability, along with exceptional maneuverability making her equally at home etching huge arcs in a wide open bowl or dancing through tight trees. The Triaxial braided Bioflex core keeps it lightweight and agile, while the progressive 14/12 sidecut provides versatility after the powder’s tracked out.
Shape
The K2 GotBack Skis have a progressive sidecut, which is a combination of two different radii or sidecuts that enhance the versatility of wider waisted skis. Standard sidecut theory is based on using a single radius. This works great on narrower skis, but becomes overpowering on wider skis, especially in variable conditions. The use of a progressive sidecut on wider waist skis guarantees improved turn initiation and hard snow performance
All-Terrain Rocker – 70% Camber, 30% Rocker. The All-Terrain Rocker is the most versatile Baseline™ available featuring an elevated tip for variable and soft-snow performance and camber underfoot for power, energy and edge-hold in firmer conditions
Flat/notched tail
Construction
Torsion Box Cap construction means they are built by a sophisticated molding process that envelopes the core and internal materials with the top layer of the ski. Snowphobic top sheets keep you light with a new snow repellent topsheet. The running surface along the bottom of a ski is hydrophobic by design so K2’s developed a thinner version of the same material to use on the back model specific topsheets.
Flex
Use: Variable snow: 30%, Soft snow: 70%
BioFlex is a unique combination of fir and spruce that is created in a process where a dense fir core underfoot is fused with lightweight spruce at the tip and tail to reduce swing weight. With the Alliance’s involvement, K2 developed a technology specific for women: lightweight, easy to maneuver, yet sturdy and high performance.

Specs

  • Terrain: Alpine Touring, Powder
    Alpine Touring
Also known as backcountry skis, alpine touring (AT) skis are designed for going uphill as well as downhill. These skis are typically light for their width and many feature fittings that accept climbing skins. AT skis vary in width and weight, with the wider heavier versions usually used for winter/deep snow touring and the skinnier, lighter skis usually used for spring/summer/long distance touring.
    Powder
These skis are for the deep days. If you like to find powder stashes at your local resort, go on backcountry missions for the freshest of fresh or heli ski trips to BC, powder skis are what you need to stay afloat. Skis in the powder category are wide and most often have some form of rocker or early rise plus a relatively soft flex. Many powder skis today are versatile enough to handle mixed conditions and harder snow.
  • Ability Level: Advanced-Expert
    Advanced-Expert
Whether you charge the steepest lines, carve with race-like precision, hit the biggest jumps or halfpipes; advanced to expert level skis/snowboards are for the more aggressive rider. You will often find the addition of layers of metal, carbon, bamboo, or other stringers in these. These features work to make a stiffer ski/snowboard with more power and rebound.
  • Turning Radius: 18m @ 160cm
  • Rocker Type: Rocker/Camber
    Rocker/Camber
Rocker/Camber skis pair a traditional cambered profile underfoot with an elongated, early rise tip borrowed from fully rockered skis. This profile places the front contact point further back from the tip, while the rear contact point remains close to the tail. The rockered tip allows for better flotation and less edge catch for increased float in deep snow, while the cambered rear stores and transmits energy similarly to a fully cambered ski.
  • Core/Laminates: Wood
  • Tail Type: Flat
    Flat
This is your traditional tail, designed to have edge contact all the way through the tail, and only designed for skiing forward. This is also preferred for alpine touring, as you can stick the tails of your skis in the snow.
  • Warranty: 1 Year
  • Tip Width (mm): 135
  • Waist Width (mm): 102
  • Tail Width (mm): 121

    Comments about K2 GotBack Skis - Women's 2011:

Great skis! Only need an inch or two of fresh snow to ski like its a "powder day". They do ski a lot shorter than they measure on groomed snow, I assume because of the rocker effect. I would suggest you go to the next size longer than you would normally use. This is not designed to be an eastern ski but I skied it at Jay Peak with just 2" or so of fresh snow and it worked great!

      Comments about K2 GotBack Skis - Women's 2011:

I am 5'7", 140lbs and I am skiing on the 167cm K2 Gotbacks. These skis float great is most conditions. The tips are very forgiving. I have a pair of Fritschi Freerides mounted on them and they are great for backcountry trips. I also use the K2 precut skins which are pretty slick the way they connect through the tip and tail. They have never slipped off.
