K2 Apache Xplorer + MX 12.0 Bindings 2009: In New England, they say, “If you don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes.” That’s not necessary with the K2 Apache Xplorer. Whether it’s been puking snow, you’re ripping early season man-made crud or late season slush, or you were lucky enough to take your annual ski trip right in the midst of a mean freeze-thaw cycle, K2’s got you covered. Its Titanium Laminate Cap makes the Apache Xplorer Skis durable and lightweight, while the MOD technology absorbs shock through a secondary core that allows for independent core movement, greatly increasing flexibility and generating more power and control. If you’re an all-season, all-mountain Shredder with the power and drive of Lewis and Clark and the adventurous soul of Magellan, this ski will take you anywhere.

  • MOD TECHNOLOGY:The ultimate in modern ski design. MOD combines an elastomeric secondary core that works as a high-performance suspension system and mass damper to provide the highest degree of ease, power, forgiveness and performance.
  • PROGRESSIVE SIDECUT:Provides wider-waisted skis with more versatility to be used in all conditions; confident and quick initiation on hard snow, with easy release in powder and crud.
  • Men’s specific MOD Monic:By embedding the solid 25 gram zinc mass into the Men’s Apache series, test teams found skis had a smoother ride because vibrations were lessened.
  • Titan Metal Laminate Cap:Metal construction creates a damp and powerful ride. Two sheets of lightweight titanium alloy run the length of the ski, offering K2’s most complex and highest performing constructions. The Titan metal laminate cap consists of alternating fiberglass and titanium above and below the wood core.
  • Xplorer Single Ski Weight:170 (4.27lbs/1937.5g), 177 (4.51lbs/2044g), 184 (4.74lbs/2148.5g)

Comments about K2 Apache Xplorer + MX 12.0 Bindings 2009:

I didn't check off "durable" as a pro simply because I haven't owned the skis for long enough. After a week in Colorado, I was very happy with my purchase. The best comment I can give about the Apache Xplorers is that I didn't have to think about them! I could focus on skiing, instead of being worried about my skis. They took a beating and felt great.

I took these new K2's out this past weekend for groomed runs out on the East Coast. Started mid-day and didn't quit until the last lift of the night! These fought through crud/slush with ease, gripped icy patches fantastically and never allowed me to lose control.

Perfect weekend to try these out. 15" fresh powder. These skis handled the groomers getting me to the trees with reckless abandon. In the trees proved to be a great medium range powder ski. Enough float to keep me moving with the big boys on the pontoons.

I have been skiing on these skis for the past 4 weekends, they are great and a lot of people ask about them, as they are a little wider, which I find very positive, mostly when you go in search of fresh powder.

I demoed these in Big Sky Montana, skied great in all conditions, crud, bumps, groomers and powder. I found no negatives with these skis. My 23 year old ex racer son also demoed them and loved them as much as I did, they ripped carves on the groomers, turned easily in the crud and floated reasonably in the powder.Just bought a pair today. As an eastern skier I think these skis will handle the varied conditions encountered in New England.

Comments about K2 Apache Xplorer + MX 12.0 Bindings 2009:

I normally ski the Sierra and everyone knows that the conditions there can vary widely. Most often though, the snow is heavy and wet. The light powder day is a rare occasion. This past winter we had plenty of both and these skis performed beautifully on ice, groomed, packed powder and powder. They carved turns with ease. I'm a bit older now and stay away from the big mogul runs so I can't tell you if they work well there. Being a bit on the heavy side, I suspect the bumps may be a weakness. But like I said, I cannot say for sure. I would recommend these skis to anyone that likes steep, fast runs. They work for me.

Comments about K2 Apache Xplorer + MX 12.0 Bindings 2009:

After a 10 year hiatus for me, I took my kids skiing for the first time last year and realized that my 207cm MSLs weren't going to cut it any more. I was to old, too soft, and having a harder time fighting through the crud. (Last thing I wanted to do was encourage my kids to point their skis downhill any more than they already do, so speed was out.) My muscles remembered being a great skier so like some OTH guy I blamed the equipment. Despite a 'bad' year locally, my kids and I did some trips, and yes, it was the equipment (mostly). These are the first new skis I've had in too long, but they were well worth the wait. At least I can still impress my kids for another year or two. Looking forward to trying them in real snow.

Great all purpose ski. Better flotation off-piste than the Recons, yet still agile enough to pound out a few bump runs. Could be better on East Coast ice. Had em for a week in Tahoe - 3 powder days, 3 days spring conditions. The perfect ski to spend the day in the trees with 8-10"
