K2 Apache Coomba Ski 2009 - The legend lives on. A high-performance backcountry memorial to celebrated ski legend Doug Coombs, the 2009 K2 Apache Coomba is a next-generation powder ski built for adventure. Coombs worked with K2 for over two years on this new model, named in Doug’s honor. With a balanced flex pattern and generous 102-mm waist width, the K2 Apache Coomba provides excellent flotation and easy handling in the toughest conditions, while the flat tail makes it easy to keep your skins on. Featuring a new tip shape that is super predictable and forgiving, and a progressive sidecut, the K2 Apache Coomba promises turning ease and power on the hardest snow. Designed for anyone from serious alpinists to aspiring backcountry/heli skiers, the K2 Apache Coomba Ski is a monument to Doug Coombs and everything he loved about skiing.
- Doug Coombs:1957-2006. A percentage of all K2 Apache Coomba ski sales will be donated to his wife, Emily, and their 3-year-old son, David. K2 will also donate a portion of the proceeds to the American Mountain Guide Association’s Chad Vanderham Endowment, which is focused on improving guide education and safety.
- TORSION BOX CONTROL:The Torsion Box Construction is the foundation for the widest range of skis designed by K2. The Coomba Skis share the common traits of ease, forgiveness, responsiveness, and energy that can be found in all Torsion Box skis.
- TRIAXIAL BRAIDING:This unique method produces skis that have a great deal of torsional rigidity and strength, while maintaining all the lively characteristics of a wood core ski.
- PROGRESSIVE SIDECUT:Provides wider-waisted skis with more versatility to be used in all conditions; confident and quick initiation on hard snow, with easy release in powder and crud.
- MOD TECHNOLOGY:The ultimate in modern ski design. MOD combines an elastomeric secondary core that works as a high-performance suspension system and mass damper to provide the highest degree of ease, power, forgiveness and performance.
