Construction
Torsion Box construction is a process of wrapping fiberglass around a wood core that produces light, lively skis. Torsion box has become the most widely used construction because if it’s highly versatile process, and has enabled K2 to build numerous models from entry to expert level skis. While flex and torsion vary, Torsion Box skis share the common traits of ease, forgiveness, responsiveness and energy. Triaxial braiding gives the K2 A.M.P. Photon Skis great torsional strength, while maintaining the lively flex patterns of the wood core.
Included Bindings
Bindings do not come mounted to the skis. Always have a certified technician mount and adjust the bindings.
Binding Compatibility
The marker M2 is the ultimate ski/ plate/ binding system designed for recreational skiers. It utilizes a new Two Linkage Toe and a fixed Compact2 Heel design to generate more power, precision and quickness underfoot. The Marker M2 systems’ sleek design is graphically integrated into the look of the A.M.P. Series skis.
Core and Flex Pattern
Mod Technology functions by absorbing vibrations and impact loads along the entire ski providing stronger edge-hold and a higher degree of power and control. Mod is a secondary core that flexes and moves on top of the primary core allowing the overall ski flex to be unaffected. Mod Monic is a solid zinc mass that works in conjunction with the Mod structure to focus mass dampening at a targeted location.

      Comments about K2 A.M.P. Photon Skis + M2 10.0 Q Bindings 2011:

Demo'd these before I bought them, they are fantastic. I am a slow and steady skier that doesn't get crazy on the mountain, these are great for carving back and forth and just going at a moderate pace and enjoying the mountain.

        Comments about K2 A.M.P. Photon Skis + M2 10.0 Q Bindings 2011:

This ski does great in any condition. Out here in the east coast the skiing is usually on man-made snow on groomed trails that can get quite icy later in the day. I am amazed at how this ski excels in these conditions. We just got dumped on with a few storms though, and this ski is just as good in the Powder as it is on the groomers. The rocker technology is amazing, like nothing else out there. tips stay up and float through the pow especially when sitting back a little bit. Great all around ski. Quick and light in the moguls but stable enough for the speed runs on groomers. I would recommend this for people who know what they are doing, beginners might have some trouble with this ski. if you know what you are doing then get this ski. can't beat it for the price.

        Comments about K2 A.M.P. Photon Skis + M2 10.0 Q Bindings 2011:

Started out in the upper midwest, had 5-6 days in resonabley good conditions. Just got back from Steamboat, spring snow conditions would be the best way to discribe base and mid-mt, better on top. Skis handeled all the conditions as well as one would hope. I have 4 kids from 4-13 so my skis get run over all the time but really never show any cuts or wear from the abuse. Great skis!

        Comments about K2 A.M.P. Photon Skis + M2 10.0 Q Bindings 2011:

For me, they're pretty awesome. Keep in mind though, that I'm coming from skiing '01 Atomic Beta Ride 8.20's for the last 10 years, so my opinion is colored by riding some pretty old technology.
The Photons have the rocker tips, so they tear through the crud MUCH better than my old skis. My old ones were cambered from tail to tip. I'm able to keep my weight more forward than my old skis, meaning I can take changes between piste and off-piste way better. Plus, when carving I don't have to be as paranoid about catching an edge; they go from edge to edge very smoothly. They are fantastic on just about any terrain except deep powder. I was curious to see how they'd handle some deep (~3 feet) powder on relatively flat terrain, and the tips sunk pretty quickly, but I wasn't leaning back all that far. If you're on steep powder though, they're pretty solid. The tips keep up enough on their own so that you don't have to feel like you're walking on egg shells every time you make a transition.
If you're looking for good, all around all-terrain skis, these will do pretty well for you. I'm still gonna get myself a pair of powder skis too, but these will be my go-to pair for most days.
I wanted to get the Rictors but they are so much more expensive! I think the Photons are a pretty good, cheap alternative.

Given the lack of snow in Colorado this year, I have used the Photons only on groomed slopes, but there were great. All of my other skis have been K2s and these are the best yet.
