K2 A.M.P. Aftershock Skis 2012: With the widest dimensions in the A.M.P. series, the K2 A.M.P. Aftershock Skis are creating fracture lines through your preconceived notions of what an all-mountain ski can do. These are built to handle ungroomed and softer snow conditions, but don’t be fooled, the Aftershock Skis are still lively and agile enough for groomers, making it one of the most versatile skis for any resort. All-Terrain Rocker™ gives this ski the added versatility to rip the open trees and explore a side of the mountain that you never thought you could. BINDINGS ARE NOT INCLUDED.
Shape
All-Terrain Rocker™ is designed for all ability levels with added versatility and ease in all snow conditions, featuring an elevated tip for variable and soft snow performance with camber underfoot for power, energy, and edge-hold in firmer conditions.
Progressive Sidecut is a combination of two different radii that enhances the versatility of wider-waist skis. This guarantees improved turn initiation and hard-snow performance.

Construction
Mod Technology is a high-performance suspension system that absorbs vibrations and impact loads along the entire ski, providing stronger edge hold, power, and control. Mod is a secondary core that flexes and moves on top of the primary core, leaving the overall ski flex unaffected.
Mod Monic is a focused mass-dampener made of a solid zinc mass that focuses mass dampening at a targeted location on the Mod structure.
Hybritech Sidewalls are a unique blend of sidewall and cap constructions that combine the accuracy, power, and performance of sidewall underfoot with the lightweight characteristics and smooth turn initiation of cap construction.
Flex
Aspen and Paulownia core: Aspen is solid and dense; Paulownia is an eco-friendly, fast-growing renewable wood that is incredibly strong and lightweight.
Metal Laminate consists of 2 sheets of lightweight Titanal running the length of the ski. Alternating layers of fiberglass and Titanal sandwich the wood core to provide dampened, accurate, and unshakable performance.
Dimensions
17m @ 174cm 130/86/114 (all sizes)
Binding Compatibility
BINDINGS ARE NOT INCLUDED. We recommend a brake width that is equal to the ski waist width and at most 15mm wider.

Specs

  • Terrain: All-Mountain, Carving
    All-Mountain
All-mountain skis are designed to handle anything you throw at them including powder, ice, groomers, steeps, heavy snow, and everything in between, but they aren’t necessarily a master of any one terrain. If you’re only going to own one ski to do it all, this is what you want. All-mountain skis generally have what we call mid-fat waists that range from 80-110 mm.
    Carving
For those that like the classic feeling of laying a ski over on edge and arcing a perfect turn, carving skis are what you want. These skis have narrower waists and shorter turn radii for edge to edge quickness and responsive turn initiation and exit on groomed runs and hard pack. The beginner-intermediate skis in this category are designed to make learning how to turn as easy as going from pizza to French fries.
  • Ability Level: Advanced-Expert
    Advanced-Expert
Whether you charge the steepest lines, carve with race-like precision, hit the biggest jumps or halfpipes; advanced to expert level skis/snowboards are for the more aggressive rider. You will often find the addition of layers of metal, carbon, bamboo, or other stringers in these. These features work to make a stiffer ski/snowboard with more power and rebound.
  • Rocker Type: Rocker/Camber
    Rocker/Camber
Rocker/Camber skis pair a traditional cambered profile underfoot with an elongated, early rise tip borrowed from fully rockered skis. This profile places the front contact point further back from the tip, while the rear contact point remains close to the tail. The rockered tip allows for better flotation and less edge catch for increased float in deep snow, while the cambered rear stores and transmits energy similarly to a fully cambered ski.
  • Turning Radius: Medium
    Medium
17-22 m radius is best for all-mountain and park & pipe.
  • Core/Laminates: Wood
  • Tail Type: Flat
    Flat
This is your traditional tail, designed to have edge contact all the way through the tail, and only designed for skiing forward. This is also preferred for alpine touring, as you can stick the tails of your skis in the snow.

    Comments about K2 A.M.P. Aftershock Skis 2012:

I demoed the K-2 Aftershock for two days last year at Steamboat... and liked them so much I acquired the 181cm on sale at the end of the season and am picking up a pair of 174cm for my Dad who is an 82 year old phenom Master's Racer. A great ski! First noticed them on Nelson Carmichael's feet in the bumps at Steamboat two years ago. He said he liked them at the time. A very lively ski that is fun to ski on. Great carver despite the built in Rocker...and I do like them in the trees and in moguls as they are very quick with that soft rockered tip. The backend of the ski is quite stiff which probably helps make them so much fun on piste and for carving trenches... but you need to ski these upfront...no lazy backseat turns. The aftershock is exceptional off piste in powder and in crud with the exception of the deepest days when i have other options. I am 195lb /6'3" and used to race for Maine and the University of Wyoming. Still ski 30 days or so a year throughout the West. On the 3 week trip to Canada next winter I will be taking the Aftershocks and if the snow is deep the Darksides.
