In the pow this ski is a dream. Softness plays a role while skiing hard pack, but its just a change of skiing style to make that change not mater. These are the other pair of skis in my quiver. When you ride these in powder you will wish everyday was a powder day.

I have the 179s mounted 5 forward for skiing stowe vermont. The only con is that they struggle on the ice. They are super easy to turn, especially for their girth, and are amazing in the tight new england trees. I bought them a year ago to use on powder days. They are so much fun they have become my primary ski. They also rock the slush and are managebale in reverse.

I'm 6'3", 160 lbs, and ski the 189 mounted at midsole. All in all a terrific ski. In powder, it rocks everything from surfy smear turns to all-out big-mountain hero carves with style and ease. The flex is soft, which makes for a smooth and mellow feel, but you can take these things race-ski fast and be super-aggressive and they won't let you down. Once the snow gets heavy, chunky , or just plain [*], they can still blow through it without any problem. On hardpack, they hold an edge amazingly well for their size and maintain that super-damp, high-speed cruiser feel. They have a lot of pop for such a gentle feeling flex, and are actually fun in the park. They land well (due to their width) and won't toss you too badly if you screw up a cliff drop or something. My only complaint is that they don't pivot too well or tolerate jump turns, but I tend to avoid that sort of line anyway. They do amazingly well in trees, too, just not super-tight billygoaters. Also, I wouldn't recommend this to east coasters or people who don't get a lot of snow. For anyone in the rockies or on the west coast, these would make a great everyday ski.

(Note: I live in Colorado. These skis kill it here, and I think they would do even better on the west coast, or at places like Jackson and Snowbird. However, if you ski out east or don't get a ton of snow, you probably would be happier with something smaller.I'm 6'3, 160 lbs and ski the 189, mounted at +2. I got these skis towards the end of last season, so I didn't get a chance to try them on real pow until this year. Even so, they were far better than I expected in slush, chop, and raunchy snow. Most other skis I've ridden get bounced around and tossed in those conditions once you get going fast, but the AKs even all the chunks out and make it feel smooth. They do really well on groomers, too, although that's probably not why you'd buy them. They like open, long radius carves at speed, and you can really lay them on edge and get aggressive on any kind of snow.In Powder, You couldn't ask for a better ride. They have a soft, seth pistol-like flex, which is forgiving but can still stand up to hard carves and speed. The float is superb - you never have to worry about burying your tips. If I had to say something negative about these skis, it would be that they don't do well in bumps and certain billy-goat maneuvers. Because of their sheer mass they are sketchy to pivot around.Still, you can't beat the dampness and stability of these skis. regardless of where you're skiing, these skis are built to charge, air, and carve. I've done things on them that I wouldn't have even considered on a lesser ski, and skied out of situations (like a 50' cliff drop to icy crap that looked like powder from above) that I fully expected to get destroyed by. All in all, a very fun, versatile, aggressive ski that won't kill you if you make a mistake. Awesome.
