Whether you're looking for a slightly wider platform for park skiing, or you just want an all around hardpack ski, the Faction Soma Skis will cover all the bases with ease. It's got edges! It's got some rocker! It's got some camber! It'll turn! What more do you need? Maybe a beer or three, but unfortunately the Soma won't help with that. It will, however, provide a snappy edge-to-edge ski experience that feels at home carving takeoffs, ripping through wiggles, and arcing high speed groomers in the morning. Don't let the skinny ski in your quiver be a slouch everywhere but the park; get some all mountain capabilities in the Soma, and turn the whole mountain into a playground.
M Tip Rocker – 5 mm of Rocker over 150 mm of length.
5 mm Camber – Maximum rebound and quick turn initiation.
S Tail Rocker – 5 mm of Rocker over a 100 mm length.
Medium-Stiff Flex – Stable, solid ride at speed. Less forgiving than a softer ski.
Medium Turning Radius – Excels at all speeds and in all conditions. Quick edge-to-edge without feeling hooky.
All-Mountain Twin – A wider all-mountain platform that retains a symmetrical shape, ideal for freeriding and backcountry freestyle.
Poplar / Ash Core – Faction's standard core material. Poplar is a medium-weight, damp, vibration-absorbing softwood. Ash is a heavier hardwood that compliments the Poplar by increasing stiffness, responsiveness and providing a solid base for the binding screws.
STP Technology – A patent-pending process used to press a small wave into the length of the ski. This creates a 'pre-stressed' core with increased torsional strength, letting Faction use less wood to create lighter, more forgiving skis with above-average edge-grip. For 14/15, Faction developed a variation of the technique that provides a perfectly flat base.
Fibreglass – Laminates like fibreglass are used to compliment the properties of the core material by increasing torsional strength, edge-grip and rebound.
Gloss Lacquered ICP2112 Topsheet – Used on most Faction skis, gloss lacquered ICP2112 topsheets are colourfast and look great. The lacquer is applied to the ski after pressing.
Sandwich Construction – Used on most Faction skis. A traditional manufacturing method that provides strength, durability, good grip and edge hold. Rubber is used to dampen vibration and bond the base layers to the core.
Die-Cut Ptex 4000 – Sintered PTEX 4000 base material is more porous and holds wax better than PTEX 2000.
1.8 mm Edges – Used on 99% of Faction skis, the 1.8 mm hardened steel edges are strong and dependable.
Silkscreen Printing – Used on 90% of Faction skis, silkscreen printing provides bright, strong colours that help our skis pop in-store and on-snow. Unlike the sublimation process used by many competitors, very little waste is created using this method, and water-based inks are used to reduce environmental impacts.
We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.
