Faction Candide 4.0 Skis 2014

Now in its second year, the Faction x Candide Thovex collaboration continues to push boundaries with its innovative use of new materials, technology and design. "I loved the award winning Royale, however I wanted to make some minor tweaks to the flex and lighten it up a bit so we changed the core to lightweight balsa / flax and refined the flex. The Candide 4.0 is unbelievably versatile considering it's width and the firmer flex makes it perform in chopped up snow, big mountain lines and pillows." - Candide Thovex. With 15 mm of rise over 300 mm in the tip and tail, this ski has got some serious rocker, making it ready for the deepest of the deep. Along with a super lightweight balsa / flax core and 122 mm waist, the Faction Candide 4.0 Skis are ready to bust crud, the deep stuff and big mountain lines.
Rocker Type
XL Tip & Tail Rocker / Flat Camber - Twice as much rocker as the standard Faction version provides = as much float as you'll ever need. Couple this with zero camber underfoot and you have a ski that provides instant edge responsiveness off-piste.

Flex
3/5 (1 Softest - 5 Hardest)
Core
Balsa / Flax Core - This core uses strips of balsa vertically laminated together with flax fibers. This creates an incredibly light yet torsionally stiff core that provides all the feel of a full wood core. Skis made using this technology are around 20% lighter than their poplar & ash-cored equivalent.
Topsheet
Custom matte topsheet
Sidewalls
ABS plastic
Base
PTEX 4000 base
Edges
Walzhol Huber 1.9 mm edges
Binding Compatibility
We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.

Specs

  • Terrain: Big Mountain, Powder
    Big Mountain
Big mountain skis are designed for charging big lines with high speeds and big airs. These skis varry in width from wide, powder-oriented skis for skiing Alaska spines to narrower, mixed condition skis for ripping the beat up headwall at your local mountain. Skis in this category tend to be on the stiffer side, often with more rocker in the tip and less in the tail.
    Powder
These skis are for the deep days. If you like to find powder stashes at your local resort, go on backcountry missions for the freshest of fresh or heli ski trips to BC, powder skis are what you need to stay afloat. Skis in the powder category are wide and most often have some form of rocker or early rise plus a relatively soft flex. Many powder skis today are versatile enough to handle mixed conditions and harder snow.
  • Ability Level: Advanced-Expert
    Advanced-Expert
Whether you charge the steepest lines, carve with race-like precision, hit the biggest jumps or halfpipes; advanced to expert level skis/snowboards are for the more aggressive rider. You will often find the addition of layers of metal, carbon, bamboo, or other stringers in these. These features work to make a stiffer ski/snowboard with more power and rebound.
  • Rocker Type: Rocker/Flat/Rocker
    Rocker/Flat/Rocker
Rocker/Flat/Rocker is a variation on the rocker theme that seeks to provide a little more hard snow edgehold and pop than full rocker while retaining ease of turning and float. Performance is between a fully rockered ski and a rocker/camber/rocker ski.
  • Turning Radius: Long
    Long
    > 22 m radius is best for powder and big-mountain.
  • Core/Laminates: Wood
  • Tail Type: Full Twin Tip
    Full Twin Tip
Desinged to allow you to ski backwards, full twin tips are found primarily on park & pipe skis and freestyle powder skis. More and more, we are seeing twin tips on all-mountain skis of all abilities, as it makes it a little easier to get around, and for the most part does not inhibit forward skiing.
