Product Info

The Dynafit team went deep into the heart of the Peruvian Cordillera Blanca and came back with a strange creature indeed. This beast combines the width of a full-on powder ski with unheard of light weight. They call it the Dynafit Huascaran Ski, and you can buy it now. Dynafit s new Scoop Rocker and subtle tail rocker lets you float over any kind of 3D snow and butter your turns to your heart's content, while the wide ski specific triple radius sidecut offers security on ice and steeps. A sharply tapered Pintail lets the tip float just a bit higher in powder and facilitates getting the tails of the ski into carry mode.

Product Details

Rocker Type

Scoop RockerSometimes referred to as the "backcountry bend," this smooth and consistently increasing tip rocker floats like crazy without giving up any more edgehold than necessary. Dimensions are specific to each ski length.

Tail RockerA short but smoothly increasing tail rocker provides easy speed control and turn radius options.

Triple-radius Sidecuts35/20/30 m (all lengths), with the shortest radius underfoot where the ski is stiffest to provide dependable edge hold on steeps and ice

PintailA tapered ski tail makes slotting skis into backpack carry loops easier and lets the tips float a bit higher in deep snow.

Isocore Paulownia Ultralight CoreBeech and bamboo stringers added for strength, liveliness and rigidity

Core CoatingQuadraxial-Biaxial pre-preg guarantees maximal torsional stiffness and integrity of construction.

Micro SidewallSidewalls are laid up in deeper horizontal layers but use less material, making them 1.5 times stronger and more impact-resistant than conventional sidewalls while still saving weight.

Sintered Graphite BaseDynafit selects the hardest running surfaces available, while still offering optimal glide and wax penetration.

Lord of the Cordillera BlancaInca-inspired Snow Leopard-Fish graphics will keep you guessing all season.

Additional Features

Skin AttachmentPatented SpeedSkin attachment is built into the ski - it's light, secure, and easy to de-skin without removing your skis.

So light for the size

Comments about Dynafit Huascaran Skis 2015:

This is the only Dynafit ski I have skied on, so I cannot compare it to others, but for the size, I was blown away at how light this beast is. It was a pleasure to tour with and the Dynafit skins are some of the easiest on and off, I have used. I skied these is almost a foot of very heavy, wet snow, and was having a blast smearing turns and bouncing around, while others on narrower skis struggled. I like fat skis, and typically tour on wider than normal skis, so for the weight I found this to be a great choice. Also, I had thought of the Huascaran to be a straight line charger due to its large turning radius, but it was suprisingly maneuverable. I'm 5'11", 180 lbs and skied the 186 perfect.

Comments about Dynafit Huascaran Skis 2015:

Dynafits new powder hound is a blast at 136/115/125 in the 186cm length and only 8.4 lbs. It is comparable in weigth to skis with large amounts of carbon, but is way cheaper!! The 3 variable turn radius really shine when railing through crud and on fresh groomed terrain. Tortionally they are stiffer than I had imagined and would love to have tested them in deep pow. These were able to handle 3 in of dust on crust like a champ, and I think they should shine in any soft snow condition. The weight savings would really be noticable when combined with any tech touring binding.

Comments about Dynafit Huascaran Skis 2015:

So, Dynafit put out a more freeride ski this year that still barely weighs more than a feather. With a fat, rockered out shovel and 115mm underfoot, the Huascaran definitely wants to slay some pow in the backcountry. On harder pack, I felt it still wasn't the most stable like frontside skis, but this ski isn't meant for that. Compared the Stoke though, I found it performed better on more variable snow, although you know these skis want the deep. For out of bounds use, this is probably the lightest ski with a waist this fat. No need to lug around heavy pow boards and wear out your quads on the upwhen you can have the lightweight Huascaran. For a true big mounain ski mountaineer, this would make the perfect weapon. So if a trip to Huascaran (google it) for a ski tour is on your agenda, I would bring this along.

Comments about Dynafit Huascaran Skis 2015:

Easily the poorest quality constructed ski I have ever owned. The top sheet de-laminated after 3 days of skiing. Contacted Dynafit and their response was "it appeared to be caused by impact." So this is a perfect ski if you're planning on hanging it on the wall, but don't plan on skiing it. They're not built to handle skiing. I don't think I would ever purchase another Dynafit product after this experience.

Dynafit Huascarans are incredible

Comments about Dynafit Huascaran Skis 2015:

It's August, and I just carried these up a few thousand feet up to the Muir Snowfield on Rainier, then skinned another few thousand feet. These skis are super light for their size, which made them great on the uphill, even when they were on my back. The snow was sun cupped and frozen over, with huge runnels everywhere, and terrible vis, but the huascarans smoothed it all out. They're stiff and damp, but also very responsive. I couldn't be happier, and I can't wait to see how they perform in good conditions! Highly recommended.
