Product Info

Like the name suggests, Bubba is Armada's bigger-than-life powder ski. Fat and lovable, Bubba's immense 132 mm waist (188) is made for powder-up-to-your-ears days typically found on cat and heli trips (if you're lucky). This big boy is ready to ride and wants to go on a road trip to Alaska or British Columbia . . . Mayan calendar graphic reminds you to book that heli trip before the end of the world. The Armada Bubba Skis will have you going like there is no tomorrow.

Product Details

Rocker Type

EST Powder RockerArmada's most powder-specific profile. Fully rockered at the tip and tail, with 2 mm of camber underfoot, it maximizes float in soft conditions for unprecedented control, while the small amount of positive camber engages the two widest points of the ski just enough to allow maneuverability on the hard pack.

Flex

Flex Pattern - Tip: 5.5, Waist: 7.5, Tail: 6.5 (1=soft; 10=stiff)

Shape

Tapered Tip and Tail5 dimension ski with the tip and tail narrower than the contact points

Dimensions (tip/contact point/waist/contact point/tail)125/140/122/129/119 mm (168), 130/145/127/134/124 (178), 135/150/132/139/129 (188)

Core

Hybrid Ultralight CoreUltralight core using select wood stringers that have unusually high strength-to-weight ratios, UltraLight cores allow our widest skis to maintain a light-yet-stable feel.

Laminates

Laminate MatrixDeliberate directional layering of fiberglass dictates flex pattern and torsional rigidity and allows each ski's flex to be precisely tuned. Bi-axial fiberglass runs in an “x” pattern down the ski to control lateral flex; Uni-directional fiberglass controls flex along the length of the ski; Tri-axial fiberglass, with fibers running in three directions, beefs up the center of the ski.

CK StringerCarbon Kevlar combo stringers lie on top of the laminate matrix along the tail to brace the ski. This increases the landing platform, especially when weight is distributed farther back in the ski than intended. It also gives the ski more pop and extends ski life.

Sidewalls

AR50 Sidewall ConstructionABS sidewall meets cap construction – the best of both worlds. This engineering method combines the lightweight cap construction in the tip and tail with ABS sidewall underfoot, resulting in enhanced edgehold and significantly lower swing and overall weight.

Base

50/50 BaseA blend of speed and durability, this base is faster than Armada’s S7 base but more rugged than the Comp series.

Edges

1.7 Impact EdgeThe edge height and width is deliberately smaller and the steel is heat-treated to a proprietary hardness to increase durability and decrease weight.

Binding Compatibility

Bindings not included

We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.

Comments about Armada Bubba Skis 2013:

After skiing the ARG a few years ago I was excited to get on the new updated version, the Bubba. The ARG was a great ski but to anyone who has skied it knows what I mean when I say it was scary at times skiing back to the chair. The Bubba is years of Armada R&D complied into making their best powder ski to date and moving past the single dimensional ARG. It's not a ski you want to grab when there's no new snow but it gets you by. It excels in deep and soft snow but even in crud the ski handles it with an improved shape that doesn't get deflected around as easy but still can break loose to change it's turn shape, dump speed quickly or change direction.

Comments about Armada Bubba Skis 2013:

The new Armada Bubba is a big one, but don't let that fool you. My first rockered ski was the Armada ARG, which I loved. The surf-board style rocker shape and smooth tapered tips are absolutely perfect in powder. But the ARG, as many people know, is horrible in between pow runs and can even be sketchy. Taking the concept of the ARG, going bigger, but adding true sidecut between the contact points in what you get with the Bubba. For a ski that is as wide as they come, I still managed to go 50 on hardpack and not worry about it. For me, the JJ is a little too turny, even catchy at times, but the wider sidecut and smoother taper transition of the Bubba make for nice turns whether on edge or sitting flat.

The Bubbas are absolutely amazing in soft stuff/pow but struggle a bit on hard pack.

    Armada Bubba 178cm

Comments about Armada Bubba Skis 2013:

The day I was on this ski was definitely not its glory day. The sun was out, we hadn't gotten any new snow in several weeks, and everything was hard, crusty and skied. On this particular day the Bubba was a little to soft and flighty, but I could really tell I would adore it as a luxury pow ski. The narrow tip and tail are very soft in comparison to the rigid underfoot area of the ski. The camber underfoot helped the ski get on edge slightly, but the enormous waist and dramatic tip and tail rocker seemed a little unpractical for the conditions. I hope I get a chance to ski it in chest deep pow!

Comments about Armada Bubba Skis 2013:

If you liked the ARG, you got a new best friend named Bubba! It was not quite as stiff as I thought it would be, but definitely a really playful, surfy pow ski. They can be chattery at high speeds on hardpack, yet they still hold a solid edge. An epic powride indeed!
