Product Info

The 4FRNT Renegade Skis are line-busting, hard-charging, big-powder-mountain crushers. The ever-gnarly Eric Hjorleifson's signature ski comes with Reflect Tech to maximize the side-cut and radius' effectiveness, making for a surprisingly nimble big mountain ski - think a charging Rhino that's been trained in Russian Ballet. Built in the White Room from real wood and Entropy Sap Epoxy to exacting Salt Lake City standards, the Renegade is a big game weapon that's beautiful enough to grace a museum.

Product Details

Rocker Type

Reverse CamberA full radius along the length of the ski gives the ski maximum float and nimble turning.

Sidecut

Reflect TechReflect Technology was dreamed up Eric Hjorleifson as a way to make rocker and side-cut work together. In the past, full rocker profiles had a negative impact on the ability of the ski to edge consistently, causing the tips to hook and the tails to wash out while the ski was on edge. With Reflect Tech, the Rocker radius and the side-cut radius are matched, to allow the ski to edge smoothly, and create predictable carving in all conditions. It virtually eliminates tip hook, as the ski will engage smoothly along its whole length, and still gives you the float and pivotablility of a fully rockered ski.

Shape

AsymmetricalA directional shape that gives the ski a more consistent feel

Tip / Tail TaperThe widest dimension of both tip and tail is moved toward the center of the ski

Deep Powder ShapeWhen the deep gets deeper, you want a ski with the float you need.

Core

Indie-Block CoreIndigenous Maple laminates paired with a Poplar center delivers a stable, even flex along the length of the ski.

Laminates

HALS ConstructionInherited construction technique from central Norway, this sidewall-less design provides superb energy transmission to the edge.

Semi-CapSemi-cap partially wraps the topsheet around the sidewall for additional durability.

Base

Purl WaxPurl Wax is based out of Colorado and is made from renewable and natural sources. 4FRNT chooses to wax their bases with Purl Ice-9 wax because it is 100% biodegradable, petroleum free, and keeps nasty PFCs out of human bodies and watersheds.

Additional Features

Entropy Super Sap EpoxyThese bio-renewable materials are by products of the paper pulp industry, pine based feed stocks, and bio-fuel production. It is these by products that provide the epoxy in the White Room skis, with adhesion and elongation properties.

Snow Sports Recycling ProgramThis program collects old ski gear such as skis, boots, poles and various other equipment and grinds up the material for re-purposing. The White Room contributes all of its fiberglass and wood scrap from cutting the skis out once they come off the press.

Binding Compatibility

We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.

Comments about 4FRNT Renegade Skis 2014:

Stats: 5'10" 180lbs - Advanced skier I grew up riding long skis (200cm+) so when I saw that the Renegade was coming out with a longer model I jumped on it. The 186cm would have worked just as well but the feeling of having more ski under me made me go for the 196cm. I pushed the mount point forward a few cm to get more tail without compromising the design of the ski. Having the full rocker allows the ski to have a very long full contact point when getting it on edge but when standing on top of the ski the rocker allows it to pivot very quickly making it very nimble in tight turns when bombing through the trees. In the deep heavy PNW concrete it makes skiing a breeze, it floats on top and lets you slash and slide effortlessly. When we're lucky enough to get the DEEP light fluff it skis a little different than most Pow skis. Instead of giving you that backseat surfy feel it allows you to drive into your turns getting you deeper into the Pow all while never giving that feeling of going over the handle bars. Where I found the skis really excelled was in big lines. When you're standing on top of a line that 2 turns in will have you moving at Mach speeds you want a ski with a long turn radius to give that stable cadillac feel. All in all I'm super impressed with the performance and feel of the ski and the graphics are just a bonus

Comments about 4FRNT Renegade Skis 2014:

To start, I should say that my negative review is more based on the fact that this ski isn't a good match for me, but that isn't to say that it couldn't be the right ski for someone else. I'm about 5'11" and I normally ride Salomon Rocker2 108's in a 182 length. I prefer a very nimble and playful ski which isn't exactly how I'd describe the Renegade. Turning these skis is quite a chore, so if you like turning, these may not be the ski for you. On the other hand, they are great as a charging ski. They feel very solid under your feet, and so if you're looking to straight-line some serious pow, then they would be a good choice. If possible to demo, I'd recommend giving them a try for yourself before buying because they are a fairly niche ski.

Comments about 4FRNT Renegade Skis 2014:

The first day on the Renegades I had awesome conditions to test them out. A solid amount of pow and blue bird conditions made me feel like was at the white room in Utah. They are incredibly playful, yet very powerful at the same time. At 122 under-waist they are still quick side to side and felt very nimble through the trees. I was amazed at how fast they were in deep snow and how effortlessly they changed direction and floated. You have drive the ski with the ball of your foot or else you will be pushed into the back seat. They are stiff, but they inspire confidence to get down anything. The stiffness also helps them bust through the chopped up pow. Not the best on groomers, but easy and fun enough go get back down to the lift and do it all over again.

Comments about 4FRNT Renegade Skis 2014:

It's been a couple seasons since I skied the Renegade. The ski still blows me away when I get on it. The amount of confidence it inspires the moment you step into the ski like none other. This isn't the ski I would choose for my everyday ski, it's a bit more powerful and less playful than I would prefer. However there is no doubt that if I wanted a directional charging ski this would be at the top of my list. I feel this is on the short list of skis I would own. For how wide this is it feels super quick to change directions making tight technical spots something you need not worry about. Its quickness combined with its stiffness is like no other ski I've been on. The stiffness provides confidence in run outs that may seem questionable on other skis. I don't know how else to describe the ski other than solid underfoot.

Comments about 4FRNT Renegade Skis 2014:

What a rad ski! I had the privilege of taking the Renegade's out on a powder day and man that ski was fun. I'm 6'3'' 215lbs and i jumped on the 196's thinking that they might be a little long for a day that wasn't the deepest of days but the ski felt/handled like it was smaller than 196. The Renegade was extremely responsive from edge to edge which is a nice feature considering how wide the ski is being 122mm underfoot. I was also happy with the stiffness of the ski as it still had the surfy feel when in the soft stuff but stiff enough to plow through the crud when charging fast lines. My only gripe is that the ski seemed to be on the heaver side but it was probably because of the demo bindings that were mounted on them. Overall, the Renegade's are an awesome ski that kills it in the steep and deep!
