Comments about Volcom L GORE-TEX® Jacket:
This is preliminary review because I've only been on the mountain once, but initial impressions are good.I spend a lot of time in powder and on groomed runs on wetter days, so not only is a jacket's waterproofing important to me, but also its powder skirt interface. I don't jib or go out around town in my snowboard jackets so abrasion durability isn't a prime concern, but if I lay myself out I need to not get up soaked after the first or fifth time. The first thing I'll say is that ziptech only works with ziptech, and that kind of sucks because it locks you into wearing volcom. Not a bad thing if you like their stuff, but if you want a certain color or fabric or combination thereof, well... you have to forget about using the zipper on the skirt if volcom doesn't offer that combo. you can wear other stuff, but the zipper's not going to zip and at that point it's just a wasted feature. The goretex works just like you'd expect from basic 2-ply. Meaning that it actually works, and that it's not the lightest or most breathable waterproof fabric out there. I feel like it's good enough to keep reasonably comfy and dry. I'm using them with non-goretex pants and the pants soak through pretty quickly, which isn't good with a storm. the jacket was dry as a bone, except for some sweat-fog. layering is key with this because while it's not super heavy, it's not super lightweight or super breathable. basic goretex isn't meant to be, but i can't afford the expensive proshell stuff, and if you're reading this review, neither can you.I like that it comes in black, and I like the features it has and the features it doesn't have. It's got good pockets in the right places and some nice design touches, like the waterproof zipper on the audio breast pocket, the whistle zip pull, and the goggle pocket snap closure. I like that it doesn't have too many hidden pockets or other extraneous features that i'll never use.my only complaints so far are that the zippers on the hand warmer pockets and main zip are not weatherproofed and while they have wind flaps that are very effective, they would likely soak through if snow stuck to the zippers and melted. which will undoubtedly happen at some point.I also am not that big on the wolf mosaic print on the lining, but it is kind of cool I guess, and I only have to look at it when I'm taking it off or putting it on, so it's not a big deal.bottom line, its a solid jacket at a good price, and anything that I'd be meaningfully happier with is going to cost twice as much. I'd say go for it if you want a good value at this price point.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

First day riding in this jacket it was dumping wet sludgy snow. My friend was wearing my old jacket, which became soaked, and the new Volcom jack was perfectly warm and dry. That pretty much sums up why I bought it - solid waterproofing at a super reasonable price. It's relatively no frills so there are some minor things that could be improved such as adding a pass pocket and zipper removable powder skirt. But overall a great value.

Like all Volcom Gore-Tex outerwear this is very well made. My only issue was that I ordered it too small. I have not doubt this will be a bomber piece.
