Trim Fit Trim fitting garments share motion-friendly traits with Athletic fit, but are patterned with lower volume for reduced bulk. Trim fit is sized for a base layer and a trim synthetic or down filled mid-layer.
e3D Ergonomic 3-Dimensional (e3D) patterning brings an additional level of articulation to provide enhanced range-of-motion in Arc'teryx's Trim, Athletic and Expedition fit categories. The Application of e3D patterning allows for enhanced mobility for sport-specific activities in challenging environments. e3D refers to an allowance in the garment patterning to provide extra gusseting and/or articulation in key joint areas - knees, crotch, waist, shoulders and elbows - to allow for maximum movement depending on needs for the intended end use. A garment with e3D will allow a greater range of unrestricted movement for the user.

Comments about Arc'teryx Alpha FL Jacket:
Have an alpha sv which is amazing but a bit of overkill for my usage as a backpacking rain shell. The sv is indestructible but the weight and pack ability suffer. For a serious winter expedition I would go with sv but the fl does everything the sv does except it is slightly less protective in heavy heavy cold wind. I do love the color I have which is basically orange but they call it chipotle. The fit is trim for the fl and if you need to heavy layer you better size up. The sv has more volume in the arms and chest so I can fit a heavy down later underneath but the fl will only tolerate a mid layer fleece or light down underlayer. The atom lt fits perfectly. The fl breathes better in hotter climates so once spring hits the the sv is in the closet for sure. No pit zips is a "mental" draw back but I haven't missed them so far......love this shell. Iay sell the sv as it is now obsolete for my needs. Packs up small. Weighs nothing. Tough as nails. It will likely outlive me. People say it is "noisy" in other reviews but compared to the sv it is quiet to me . The e vent of the Westcomb is very nice but In real world conditions the gore tex is what I trust.
Comments about Arc'teryx Alpha FL Jacket:
This has been the perfect shell since I picked it up last fall. It has a perfect athletic cut to layer well (have worn with thermal layer, active T-shirt, Micro-down Vest and slim fitting puffy mid layer) or just be worn as a rain shell over a t-shirt. One clutch addition to this model over the previous one is there is now an internal chest pocket. A must have for anyone trying to keep their smartphone out of harms way.
The Alpha FL has fantastic range of motion, making it my go to for biking and skiing in inclement weather, the length in the back is long enough to cover the waist line when I lead forward on bike handlebars.
The jacket cleans up really easily and also breathes exceedingly well at all temperature ranges - this came in handy when running away from a freak Bolivian hail storm while travelling in the Amazon. No internal stow pocket, but if you fold it into thirds it rolls up into the hood nicely without wrinkling. The perfect do anything shell for any active dude.
