Comments about Mammut Alyeska Jacket:
I'm blown away by this jacket! Being a converted east coast park rat who's not unfamiliar with really baggy outerwear, I was concerned that at 5'9" 135 lbs a medium would be too small for my particular style. Not so! The fit allows for one or two layering garments underneath without being too huge; The length comes down about 4-5" below my hips, and the sleeves fit perfectly.
As for quality, it's GORE-TEX Soft Shell! Need I say more? The soft, thin fleece backer makes it super comfortable in a t-shirt and being GORE-TEX, it's insanely waterproof and breathable to the point that I didn't feel like I was in a sauna while skiing down Mt. Rainier in 60 degree weather. Mammut's attention to detail is incredible; the stitching, fit and features make the shell well worth its price. My only complaint is the zipper on the small collar zip that is used to expand the neck opening - It sometimes catches while zipping up, but all you need to do is back it off a bit to free up the zipper.
All in all, this is the best shell I've owned and would recommend it to anyone looking for a technical garment that will keep them comfortable in some seriously inclement weather.
