        Comments about Bern G2 Helmet:

I got this helmet at the end of last year to replace an old RED helmet that never did fit me right. I tried a Bern Baker at first, but it didn't fit my square-ish Smith Prodigy goggles very well (gaper gap, plus downward nose pressure). Also, I didn't like that it had no ventilation since I do a good bit of hiking and sidecountry.

Enter the G2. This thing is a bit spendier, but it is really sweet. It fits me extremely well and didn't need any additional tweaking of padding, etc. I love the liner which is very warm on the ears but doesn't cook the top of your head. The liner has a small brim that helps keep snow from accumulating on your goggle vents when it's nuking. The G2 is also a helmet (not a hard hat) so there's a nice little bit of added security knowing that my dome is certifiably protected.

The best feature, though, is the venting. This thing has big, fat vents that stay tightly closed when you're looking to keep your business toasty. When you're starting to heat up on a bootpack, the one switch opens those vents wide and I've often said that I'd like to have thermal imaging of my head when I open those vents -- it would look like a chimney and it feels like you just injected york peppermint patties into your scalp. It's the first thing I do when I feel my temp start rising, and it often does the trick, preventing me from fiddling with pit zips or pant vents.

The only complaints I have are that the vent switch feels a bit sticky when it's wet and is a bit plastic-y feeling. Also, it's located right on top of your head which means you have to reach far up to flip it. Minor issues.
