Comments about The North Face Verto Micro Hoodie:
The Verto Micro Hoodie was obviously designed for climbing, and TNF really nailed it. It's great no matter what kind of climbing you're doing, but it really shines on long alpine routes. When my climbing partner and I are climbing a long route, it usually means only one of us is carrying a pack, and that's the follower. If I'm leading, that means I have nothing to keep me from freezing while belaying up my partner. This jacket is the answer. It packs into its own pocket, and I just clip it to my haul loop on my harness.
It weighs almost nothing, but gives you tons of warmth and protection for the size and weight. The tightly woven fabric stops the wind dead, and the down in the core provides the perfect amount of warmth. I like how they put down all the way up into the collar and in front of your chin, although I wish it extended into the hood. Even if you get into some precipitation, the fabric sheds water well enough to protect you (and the down) for a while. It's the perfect amount of protection until your partner arrives and you can get into the pack.
Being able to have weather protection seamlessly clipped to your harness is paramount, and that's what you get with the Verto Micro Hoodie. Wherever you go, you essentially have a light down vest, and wind shell with you at all times. The elastic sleeves and hood opening are perfect, and I'm also glad TNF decided to include pockets. My only wish would be for down in the hood.
