Comments about The North Face Ballard Boots:

This is the second pair purchased. Love the boot....perfect fit. My foot grew as I am only 18. The first pair was purchased when I was 16 and lasted until I outgrew them. These are the only winter boot I will wear. Thanks North Face for making a fantastic product that lasts (I have passed my old ones on to my cousin who is thrilled to have them!)

Comfy boot but waterproofing falls short.

Comments about The North Face Ballard Boots:

Bought these boots as a winter boot to spend the season working in Whistler. So far they have been comfy, warm and look great.

Unfortunately they are not waterproof as claimed. Part of my work is cleaning pools so when removing the brushes and hoses you get a bit of dripping around your feet. From day 1 these boots have left me with wet socks at the end of the day. Also after spending 30 mins walking to work in snow yesterday I was also left with wet feet and insoles. Which is a shame because after spending $180 I'll need to buy a better pair of winter boots now.

After a search online I can't find any other reviews where people have said they have leaked so maybe I just got a dud pair? Not sure if TNF warranty covers waterproofing.

IcePick technology does not keep you upright.

Comments about The North Face Ballard Boots:

I live in South Dakota and wanted a nice pair of winter boots. My first impression was that these are stylish with some winter comforts. A big draw for me was the IcePick technology, as most of my winter is spent walking icy sidewalks on my college campus and apartment.

I received these boots with only two months left of winter in January 2013. I found them comfortable, but was surprised that the sole is not made of a very firm material. During those two months I had lost my footing only a couple times while wearing these.

This winter of 2014 has been a whole other story. It has been very cold and icy in the Midwest and I am thoroughly disappointed with these boots.

Not once while I have been wearing these have I felt safe on the ice.

I believe the IcePick technology to be a complete failure and do not recommend relying on it. With the majority of this winter being subzero there is also no argument for these lugs being temperature-sensitive.

Unfortunately for myself my purchase falls outside of the one-year warranty in place for North Face Footwear. I have re-purposed these boots for days above freezing point only.

My only recommendation for these boots are for people who live in areas that do not see much snow or ice. They are a contemporary to Timberland boots.

Comments about The North Face Ballard Boots:

Nice boot for running around town or some casual hiking. They are made well but wouldn't stand up to long hikes/climbs or used as a primary work boot. The retro style is cool and is generally the style I go for when purchasing a new boot, but the North Face products have slowly transformed to target the main stream market rather than climber/hiker crowd. This trend shows in this boot, its kind of obvious they made them look retro without backing them with more rugged features. I am a little disappointed with this purchase but they will serve well as a winter running around boot.
