Super simple. Super small. Super Sweet. The Ortovox Zoom Avalanche Beacon is a new three-antenna transceiver that incorporates high-end range and processing in a minimalist package with a super simple two button interface. With a streamlined set of functions that provide little in the way of distractions, and coming in at a very attractive price point for a 3 antenna beacon, the Zoom will appeal to both newcomers and backcountry veterans who value compact simplicity.
Single large circular display with distance, direction, and multiple victim icons
Simple and Intuitive Search Mode LED distance readout with directional arrows and intuitive search accoustics that beep higher and faster with increasing proximity
Initial Signal 40 meters
Recommended Search Strip 40 meters
Multiple Burials The Ortovox Zoom automatically searches for the strongest victim signal, then flags that victim as the searcher moves away from the location and searches for the next strongest signal.
Uses one "AA" 1.5V alkaline cell
Battery Life Up to 250 hours in transmit mode
Small comfortable bag with elastic cord included
Simple Controls The Zoom has only two controls, a rotating on/off switch on the back of the unit and a sliding switch at the top to change from transmit to search mode.
Self Test The Zoom runs a self test when turned on and continues to monitor itself while being used.
Smart Antenna Technology Integrated Smart Antenna Technology analyzes the position of the victim's transceiver and automatically switches to the best transmission antenna - the result is 43% longer range in the worst transmission area.
Warning Wearing an avalanche beacon is no guarantee of survival in an avalanche. Backcountry travelers are highly advised to educate themselves in snow stability assessment, route finding, and companion rescue and carry all of the conventional avalanche gear in addition to a beacon.

Comments about Ortovox Zoom Avalanche Beacon:
This beacon is super simple to operate. It encourages good technique by reducing the amount of input from the user. Automatic flagging for multiple burials. Automatic revert to transmit mode when stationary for a long period. It's also a fair bit smaller than the BCA tracker models making it easier to carry and hold. The included harness seems adequate and the instructions are clear.
