Comments about Lange XT 130 Ski Boots 2014:

I ended up in the XT 130 after getting fit at a Surefoot store to replace a very old pair (6 seasons) of Salomon xwave 9.0 boots. The Surefoot fitter recommended either the XT 130 or the XT 130 LV, but didn't have either in stock for me to actually try on.

I started with the XT 130 LV from Evo, which was comfortable for about five minutes sitting on the couch at home, before my toes would get numb and never regain feeling. I debated heading to a local fitter to test the fit, but after a few indoor wears realized I should go to the regular volume (high volume compared to the race last) XT 130.

The XT 130 was immediately more comfortable - i could tell I sacrificed some heel hold, but being able to feel my toes was nice.

I skied my first day in the XT 130 last Friday at Cannon Mountain in New Hampshire. Conditions were pretty typical East Coast December: Solid ice at times, very hard hardpack at the best of times, with some piled up icy sugary slough in between. The temperature at the summit was around 20F, and I was thankful it wasn't colder because the first day in a new set of boots is always tough on the feet.

Once on the mountain, I was immediately impressed with the boot. Heel hold was incredible compared to my previous boots, and I wasn't really sacrificing any comfort. I can only compare to that past Salomon boot I owned, but here's my thoughts on the Lange.

    - I'd imagine there's a buckle position to suit everyone.
    - You can really fine-tune the upper's fit using the power strap, which is enormous and pretty elastic. The strap might be more elastic than I'd prefer, but I'll give it a few more days on snow before I decide.
    - The flex is extremely linear, which was unusual to me but not unwelcome. I actually found it added control when skiing upright (bumps, softer snow (where it existed)) without limiting my ability to flex the ski when speed picked up.
    - Walk mode is a surprisingly nice feature. I'd debated going with the RX 130 because I didn't think I needed walk mode, but I'm glad I have it now. Flicking the tab allows you to stand nearly straight up in the boot.
    - The rubberized sole is also a big help, even just walking around the parking lot or taking stairs. I anticipate having these shells for multiple seasons so I like the ability to replace sole pieces if necessary - that's why I ditched my old Salomon boots. The soles were too worn down.
    - Skiing on groomed ice or rain-frozen snow was far more comfortable than I'm used to - I felt like more vibration was absorbed by the boot and not by my foot or leg. This made fatigue come slower, which was nice.
    - I've mentioned the heel hold, which is my favorite part of this boot for me. It meant I could run the buckles looser than I had previously done, which added comfort without sacrificing control. Overall I felt more stable and in control in this boot, and had to do less work to keep my foot centered.
    - The only negative I've found yet is that my toes were on-and-off numb after half a day. I didn't take a lunch break so never took the boots off until the day was done. I attribute this more to the "first day in new boots" issue than the boot itself. If it continues to be an issue after three or four days I'll see a boot fitter, but that's just as much a function of my foot shape as it is of the boot.

So far I'm impressed. I have a half dozen more East Coast days planned before a West Coast spring skiing trip, so I should be able to update with details.

Comments about Lange XT 130 Ski Boots 2014:

I enjoy all types of ski slopes but I only have piste near where I live. Honestly, I wanted to buy Lange RX130 or RX120 model but could not find decent deals. I ended up buying this model, XT130, which has walk lever and more soft rubber sole at the bottom to give more stable grip when walking.

I feel no difference in stiffness due to the walk lever. Because my feet best fit with 25.0, I feel some toe room with 25.5 size boots. I put additional insole so it fits snug. But that's not their fault.

Comments about Lange XT 130 Ski Boots 2014:

These boots are tight at first, but loosen up after you wear them a bit. I've skied them twice this season and I am very happy with the comfort level and control, they fit like a glove. I get a little pain, but that's because I have ra-tarded flat feet, so I cramp up sometimes right in the arch area, but that is not the boots fault. Love the hike/ ski feature, makes the lodge and stairs much easier. I saw another reviewer said these are heavy, which I don't understand at all. These have to be the lightest boots I've ever had. My Atomics, which these replaced were brutally heavy and really exhausted my legs by the end of the day. My only complaint is my feet were cold, but my feet are usually cold. I have custom footbeds from my other boots, with the hotronics heaters and in the cold NH powder, my toes were still cold. I added a pair of Bootgloves and that did the trick. I always thought those were goofy, but they sure work.

Comments about Lange XT 130 Ski Boots 2014:

So far so good. I've only had limited experience with the XT130's so far but have been very impressed. They feel nice and stiff but not uncomfortably so. In fact, for a performance boot, I find them very comfortable even out of the box and expect them to get downright cozy once they pack out a bit.

Comments about Lange XT 130 Ski Boots 2014:

In the theme of full disclosure, I have not worn these boots skiing as of yet, so I can only comment on fit, feel and construction at this point. The fit is good so far and the liner more comfortable than I expected. My current boots are Atomics and they are heavy as fook, so I was very surpised to experience how light these are on my feet. I think they weight will make a huge difference in control and hopefully easier on the legs during a full day of skiing. I will have update this review when I get some official airtime on these boots.
