Comments about Marker 12.0 Piston Control Ski Bindings (90mm Brakes) 2009:

Having completely destroyed my previous freeride bindings last year (imaging that 'oh no' moment), I considered this season a chance to try something a little different on the binding side and decided upon the 2009 Marker 12.0 Piston Control bindings. I liked the thought of a little more structure on my boots and it was hard to argue with the price! The bindings themselves seemed to be put together very well and while they didn't feel like tanks (i.e. indestructible), they were pretty sturdy. A local shop handled the install and I simply waited for the snow. In a lot of ways - still waiting. While this winter has pretty much sucked so far, I have had a chance to get some turns in with the new setup and so far I am happy with my choice.

The good: Previously, I had gotten a lot of chatter when hitting the oft icy groomers in my area. I am in no way a small guy (+/- 200 lbs) and these binding, paired with my Solomon Foil 174's, handled my 'winter weight' easily. With the new bindings, it feels like I am able to more solidly set an edge on turns, and there is a lot more decisiveness entering and exiting turns. So far - no chance to hit anything off piste as all the snow has been iced over or really, REALLY heavy. Still doing the snow dance to try and convince Mother Nature to give me a chance for some fun before it's time to put the gear away.

Entry and exit is very smooth and I find these a lot easier to step into then some previous gear.

I will say that it SEEMS like the DIN's are a little liberal on these suckers as I have had one or two releases that have left me piled up in the snow thinking 'really?'. Had been riding with them at 7's (from the shop) and have since ratcheted up a bit more. Thinking that should solve the problem.

The only thing I am still trying to figure out is the piston drive piece. Part of me wonders if the local shop that handled the install messed something up, but as it sits now I can't seem to get any kind of motion on the drives. Locked or unlocked doesn't seem to impact the ride much at all, but again - use has been REALLY limited due to the less than ideal conditions. I am planning on taking a solid look at these to see if I can ID anything that looks amiss and will keep my fingers crossed for a chance to break these in more soon!

All in all - very pleased with the purchase and experience with EVO overall. Now if it would only start snowing...

Comments about Marker 12.0 Piston Control Ski Bindings (90mm Brakes) 2009:

loved the performance of the plate and piston. fairly good boot retention. but then I pulled the entire heel block out of the track from edging hard on an icy day. the aluminum that the heel track is made of is too soft. it needs to be steel or use a large surface area to transfer the load. i skied them really hard and probably shouldnt have been using them in the first place. it was kinda anoying how you cant adjust the toe height like you can on other manufacturer's toe pieces

I decided to pickup a pair of these bindings and I have to say I like them a lot. I can step in and out of them significantly easier then my Rossignol bindings. So far they have done everything I would expect from a Marker binding.
