Cast Iron Cookware

EVO Rating:
Green Attributes:  Energy Efficient, Non-Toxic
User Rating:

Lodge Original Finish cookware is made of durable cast iron, a heavy material that retains and distributes heat far more efficiently than other metals. Because cast iron heats up and cools slowly, it's ideal for foods that cook at a consistent temperature over long periods, such as sauces or casseroles. Original-finish cookware should be seasoned with vegetable shortening and heated in the oven before first use. The seasoning process creates a natural nonstick, rustproof surface that lasts a lifetime. Features include:

  • Thick cast-iron construction retains heat and spreads it evenly throughout the sides and bottom
  • Heavy cast-iron lids seal tightly for self-basting
  • Proper seasoning creates a nonstick, rustproof surface that cleans easily
  • You season with vegetable shortening and heat at 350 degrees F for 1 hour before first use
  • Hand wash only with stiff brush and hot water; lasts a lifetime with proper care

About Lodge Manufacturing

In 1896, in a tiny town along the banks of the Tennessee River, Joseph Lodge discovered a beautiful valley in which to raise a family and build a foundry. Over the past 100 years, Lodge has made many changes in equipment and procedures. But throughout four generations of family management, the company's commitment to people, quality, and product innovation has never changed. The great-grandsons of Joseph himself now direct a state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly foundry. Many Lodge employees boast about being third- and fourth-generation foundry craftspeople. Because of the family tradition of reinvestment, Lodge is not only the sole domestic cast-iron cookware foundry, it is America's oldest family-owned cookware manufacturer.
