"Peel and Stick" Solar Panels from LumetaAdhesive Building Integrated Photovoltaics
In this video two men install 2.25 kilowatts of Lumeta solar panels in 34 minutes. Besides the advantage of a quick installation, the panels are lightweight, aesthetically pleasing, and have the wiring built into the frame. A disadvantage is that the panels have about a 4% to 6% output loss because they cannot be tilted to optimize the sun rays. The Lumeta panels utilize monocrystalline silicon technology and replace the standard glass substrate with Teflon and fiberglass making the panels about 25% lighter. Chief Operating Officer Stephen Torres estimates the Lumeta panels reduce installation hardware costs by 70 percent and cut installation time by 30 percent. Lumeta is a subsidary of DRI Companies, one of the largest roofing contractors, and has created a peel and stick solar panel. For the custom module manufacturing, Lumeta has partnered with Suntech Power, the second largest module manufacturer in the world. |
