So You Want To Be A Greenspotter

What exactly is a Greenspotter? A Greenspotter is someone who wants to spread the ‘good green word.' Someone who gets excited about local companies doing cool things, innovative green products, or movements in their community or on their campus towards greenness. We want to convey to everyone out there that green is both cool and easy and there are many different ways to make an impact.

What do Greenspotters do? Greenspotters contribute in a variety of ways. You might know about a local business doing something cool – say, your local coffee shop has switched to all biodegradable packaging and offers composting for it all. You would be invited to blog about this business, take pictures, do a video interview with the store owner or write an article about businesses that switch to biodegradable packaging and the impact it can have on the environment. Or, maybe your friend has the coolest t-shirt company ever – they print on organic cotton, use low-impact inks, drive their biodiesel van to distribute their shirts and buy wind power to offset their carbon impact. You would have the same options – take ‘em out and do a photo shoot, record a video of them making their t-shirts or selling them at the farmers market, put together a short blog entry or write a whole article about the impact of shirt-dying processes or non-organic materials on the earth. Finally, maybe someone on your campus starting a composting program for food waste, eliminating thousands of pounds of food waste from the landfill every week, and you think the nation deserves to know about it. So do we! Take a picture, write and article, and we'll highlight it on the site.

Why be a Greenspotter? We here at EVO feel that the best way for a movement to gain momentum is for the masses to get involved. While there is more and more press every day about ways for people to go green, we feel there is still a need for a highlight of the really cool things individuals are doing to make green easy for everyone. We are constantly amazed by these products, and realize that there are other people across the country who are seeing these great companies and innovators in their communities every day. Many of the companies making these amazing products in the green marketplace are small companies who haven't yet reached the fame and fortune stage – we believe that every one of these companies who is making a difference deserves a space at EVO and it's our obligation to spread that great green word. So help us accomplish this mission and become an EVO Greenspotter.

Our favorite companies are ones that sell their products online, since we could then direct business their way and highlight their products on the site, but we really just want to hear about people that are taking steps to make green easy and accessible to everyone.
