Overview

There are few things in life that can give you the most potent of adrenalin rushes while simultaneously giving you some of the most breathtaking views you'll ever get the chance to bear witness to.

And if its safety you're worried about, you can put your fears to rest. Hang Gliding schools all over the country adhere to strict safety measures and are run by instructors certified by the United States Hang Gliding & Paragliding Association(USHPA). Most schools require extensive take off and landing practices on small hills before letting you set out for your first flight, and even then you'll usually go tandem with an instructor.

The best part: gliders are cleaner than planes. It's hard to stay green when you're sitting on a aircraft, flying to some far off locale for your vacation. The only energy a hang glider requires is yours, and its a bound to be a more memorable flight.

When To Go

The question is really when not to go; once you find a location that feels right, keep up with local weather reports and get in contact with an instructor. They'll let you know when conditions are ideal and the best time for you to start learning.

That being said, you might want to avoid colder locations prone to rougher weather conditions. While it might not cancel your flight completely, bad weather will make it a bit unpleasant.
