Native Winds

Across the Great Plains and the deserts of the Southwest there is one truly abundant resource that could power and estimated 15% of all energy demand in the Unites States -- wind. Companies like Native Energy are helping to fund the development of wind and other renewable energy generators across the country.

How you can Participate

Through Native Energy you can purchase REC's, or Renewable Energy Credits. These are great if you are not able to buy renewable energy directly from your local utility. A REC reduces global warming pollution on your behalf by creating a greater supply of wind energy. The grid is required by law to accept renewable energy first, which pushes out the equivalent amount of power generated by burning fossil fuels.

The result is that for every kWh generated by a renewable generator, one kWh less is generated by fossil fuel plants.

Some renewable energy projects, like family farm methane projects, reduce global warming pollution by reducing the amount of fossil fuels the farms themselves use for heat and cooling, or by preventing emissions of methane gas from manure stored in lagoons.
