Overview

South America is a geographical, historical and cultural wonder for travelers. But it's enormous, covering 17.8 million square kilometers - larger than Australia and Europe combined. This vast area is home to 12 countries and 372 million people, with tropical beaches, ice fields, vibrant cities and remote wilderness.

When To Go

The most pleasant time to visit South America is in the dry season, between December and March or July and August, particularly if you plan on hiking. It also gives visitors a better chance to savor local cultural events, as many festivals and fiestas take place during these times.
