I didn't read all 200-something reviews on the Slimpack but it's hard to believe my size 7 foot is different from anyone else's size 7 foot! Last winter, I ordered the Joan of Arctic in a 6.5 after reading that the boot ran big. It was too small but I also thought it was way too clunky and too much boot for me, so it got returned. I decided to order the Slimpack next in a 7 because it had an urban style with it's leather shaft yet warm and winterproof. The 7 was still too small! Keep count: this is return #2. I spoke to customer service, and was told different styles were sized differently. Because it was the end of the winter, they ran out of sizes, so I had to wait until the summer when Slimpack was restocked. Fast forward to summer 2014, I order Slimpack in 7.5. STILL too small. Really? I also needed someone to help pull them off me. Return #3. I couldn't believe I had to order a size 8 but I did. They came, and they were still too small. Do these sizes go up by centimeters?? I even tried them on with thin socks and I could see my big toe poking through the rubber front. I called customer service because I really needed guidance and counseling because I truly was tired of going to the post office. At this point, I was determined to own a pair of Slimpack boots. She suggested going to a size 9, especially if I was going to wear thick socks. I was worried they would swim on me around the calf. I did order the 9s, and they fit. Let's not forget Return #4, however. So the 9s stay. I can wear thick socks, I can remove the boots on my own, and they aren't over bulky in the calf area. Overview: I will love my Slimpacks and use them well in NYC winters. However, I'm hesitant to make another Sorel purchase because I never ever want to return four pairs of footwear again.

These boots are as reviewed in terms of being warm but not too warm, incredibly stylish, and running about a 1/2 size small (I'm normally a size 5, and the 5.5 even allows me to include a shearling insole to make them warmer when needed). However, I'm disappointed so far for two reasons: (1) in spite of all the "waterproof" references in the product description, they in fact are NOT so. My socks and the shearling insoles are often wet after wearing the boots in slush and snow - it's not like I waded in puddles or anything. Customer service explained that I shouldn't expect the boots to be waterproof because of the way the seams are joined. I share this in case anyone else reaches the same conclusion I did from their description as a "waterproof, insulated PAC boot," or the construction from a "Waterproof full-grain leather upper" and an "Insulated waterproof vulcanized rubber shell" (among other features). This seems misleading and could easily be addressed by clarifying that the boot is actually water "resistant" if that is all Sorel intends for this style. (2) the adjustable suede strap on the back calf of one of the boots has already torn off, after only 6 weeks of periodic use. Since they're so new, I'm going to follow the warranty process and hopefully get a new pair...call me crazy, but these boots are just cool enough that I want to try them again before giving up. Fingers crossed for stronger straps and more water "resistance"!

Fab Boots

By

from Missouri

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

Okay, I read all the reviews and the size IS a true fit. If you are like me and have a high arch they are a little snug to get into. Now, a piece of advice...if you put a plastic grocery bag on your foot (I know odd) with the toe open your foot will slip right in (then you can rip it out). It really works!! Love them and so do all my friends...and strangers when I wear them.

love these boots, but the rubber cracked

By

from Vail, CO

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

I absolutely love these boots! I have 2 pairs of them. I wear these nearly everyday to and from work (I change into ski boots during work). They are warm, stylish, and offer good traction on snow and ice. I get complements on them almost everyday! However after one season of wear, my first pair cracked! Sadly not just one crack, but there are several cracks in the rubber part on both boots! I still wear them but only when I know there won't be any form of precipitation. I'm disappointed in the quality of these. I know sorel makes fantastic boots, as I have several pairs. I hope sorel will improve the quality of the rubber.

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

These boots are beautiful and I WANT to keep them, and I love that they come in half sizes. However, they're difficult to put on and nearly impossible to take off! If you don't have someone to take them off for you, you might be in trouble.

Comfort and style meets functionality

By

from Minneapolis, MN, USA

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

First out of the gate is the issue of sizing. I found them to be quite true to size in terms of length. I have narrow feet and small/average calves and found no issues getting the boots on or off. The foot of the boot is roomy and comfortable. I would normally buy a 7 in boots and bought a 7 this time too. In terms of sizing distinction between this and the SOREL SLIMBOOT, my slimboot pair is a size 6 (obviously they ran large. I would never have thought to buy a 6). So use that comparison when deciding if you perhaps have the slimboot. These Slimpack Boots are very comfortable, have arch support and they are very cute. I get many compliments on my sorels, no matter what pair I am wearing. When deciding size, you have to take into account your foot WIDTH too. Those who can't get their foot in must have wide feet and therefore would need to size up. I wouldn't suggest sizing up if you have narrow feet. Its fall here in MN and my feet get very very warm in these-sometimes too warm. I am certain they will stay nice and cozy for the winter months as well.

Great boot!

By

from South lake Tahoe

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

I bought these boots last year and love them. I get tons of compliments. My only complaint is that the footbed is not lined. So my feet sweat. This is my 3rd pair of Sorels. The others are lined. Is there some kind of insole that I can put inside?

Love this boot, runs small!

By

from Bozeman, MT, USA

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

I absolutely love this boot! They are really comfortable and really warm. I have pretty narrow feet and usually wear a size 7-7.5 in Sorel but needed an 8 in these. I live in Montana and during winter good socks are a must- so since they run a little small a half size up was too. I always worry if going up a size in a shoe is going to make my feet look awkwardly large, and that is definitely not the case with these. Because the leather covers half of the top of your foot, these boots make your feet look small.

Just get em.

By

from Crested Butte, CO 81224, USA

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

I spent a year oogling over these boots, reading the reviews and trying to decided yay or neigh. I finally bought them when they came out in nutmeg this year. I bought them in my regular size.. although confession - in some brands I can go a half size smaller, but didn't do that here due to all the concerns about fit. I imagined I'd have to try the grocery bag strategy that one of the other reviewers mentioned, but as it turned out, no such misfortune. It took quite a yank the first time, but I was able to get them on and off, and have not had trouble since. I have a slightly high arch, so after a long day of wear (10+hrs), I will notice they are slightly uncomfortable in the arch, but other than that they are a perfect fit. The appearance probably goes without saying. They are beautiful, and I think the nutmeg pairs well with all browns, blacks, and greys you might have in your wardrobe.

Just try them!

By

from Michigan

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

I went round and round when ordering these boots and never had I read so many reviews! My daughters thought I was insane as I debated over and over my size selection. Ultimately I went with my true size 9 (wide) and although I have to really tug to get them on they are roomy enough for medium wool socks and totally comfortable! I wore them the first day for a long walk on the beach of Lake Michigan. Mind you it's December with wind, water, snow and muck! My feet stayed dry and warm. My only concern may be around the ankles as the leather can bunch up and rub a bit but I'm hoping as it stretches this won't be a problem.

Great But...

By

from Italy

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

I bought these boots a month ago and LOVED them. They are warm, durable, unique, and waterproof. I wish they were a little more slip resistant, but they are easily my new favorite pair of boots! Until today. The calf strap came unsewn on one of the boots. I've only had them a month and haven't been climbing trees or anything in them, so I was disappointed that they fell apart so quickly. I thought for the brand and price the quality would certainly last longer.

Not a boot for cold weather

By

from New York, NY

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

I only give two stars because these boots are mere rain boots, nothing else. I did not expect the rubber shoe part of the boot to be so thin! I thought I could wear them for the snow, but that is not the case at all. The calf of the boot is very wide, and looked too big on my skinny legs. I am a size 9, but ordered them in 9 1/2. They were still too small! Anyway, if you are looking for a rain boot, order this one, but get it a full size up. (I am now ordering a real snow boot...)

Staple boot for winter

By

from Holden, MA

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

I recently moved to New England this past year from the South and did not have boots to weather the tough winters here. These boots have worked great during fall, winter, and spring (bought them in early November). My feet stay warm and dry in snow and rain, though I probably wouldn't use these to go hiking in deep snow. They are a little bit difficult to pull off since they are tight around the ankles, but I wear them around my office all day as well as walking in Boston for day trips and they do great. The gray goes with everything; I'd really like to try some of the other colors. I usually wear a 7.5 or 8, so I ordered the 8 to leave room for wearing thick wool socks, and this size was great for thick socks in winter or thinner socks when I'm wearing them more for rainy weather. I get compliments all the time from friend and acquaintances--so they are cute yet functional as well. Highly recommend these boots!

By

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

I love these boots. They look great and ft great. However, they are really hard to get on an off! It is frustrating. Why wouldn't they put an inside zipper on these boots?? If they had a zipper they would be great. I tiny...not even 100lbs and I have to sit down and pull hard to get these off and usually my socks come off with it. Just a bummer for after you have been out slushing around or a guest at someone's house.

By

from Milwaukee, WI

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

I love my new boots! I spend a lot of time outside walking my dogs in the woods and I also wear them to the barn where I keep my horse. I chose to get my usual size (instead of going up) and they fit perfect and I can still get a heavy sock on. They go from field to running errands and wipe off very easily! Did I mention that it's only 27 degrees today with an inch of snow and my feet were toasty warm when I walked my dogs at 7:30 am!

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

These are fabulous. Great look, easy to take off and on (for me anyhow) and super quality. I had to buy three different colors. Wear them at the barn and just out and about. For a new transplant to Oregon, they make me (almost) like the rain and an excuse to wear them.

Great Looking, Cheaply Made

By

from Brooklyn, NY

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

These boots look fantastic, and are comfortable. However, the heel is made of plastic, with a very thin rubber coating. So, after wearing through the rubber in about 4 weeks, the shoes become lethal if anything is remotely slippery. Inclement weather shoes should have inclement weather bottoms. These absolutely do not. It was an unneccessary construction decision that make these a poor choice for an everyday winter shoe.

Boot shaft too small for athletic calves!

By

from Austin, KY

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

Ladies, if you have a calf muscle over 15", these WILL NOT work for you. It seems that these boots were made for skinny legs. I work out, surf, etc. and there is no way I could make these work for my calves. The quality seems to be great and the boots are absolutely beautiful, but I am returning due to the shaft being too small. I did go up a half size from reading other review. I squeezed my leg into and the foot bed feels okay. Definitely need to size up, but I'll continue the search for a comparable boot with a wider shaft.

Perfect Boot!

By

from Boise ID

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

I just got my boots today and have wore them around in the house, so keep in mind that they have not yet been tested outside. I read a review that said these boots were very hard to take off. For me that was not true at all. They have a very comfortable fit and slip off great. I wear 6-6.5. I ordered a 6.5 just to be sure my toes have enough room. They fit great. They are not too small or too big, although I do have a little extra room for my toes which was just what I was hoping for.

Love these boots!

By

from Grand Rapids, MI

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

I recently purchased these boots and LOVE them! They are a little tough to get on at first - the fit around the ankle and top of my foot was a little snug. However, after wearing them a couple of times, it stretched out so now I have no problem getting them on or off. I ordered a size 6 and normally wear anywhere from a 5 1/2 - 6 1/2. They are comfy, have room for skinny jeans, and I've only worn them twice and gotten compliments already. I would definitely recommend them, and I think they will withstand the Michigan fall and winter.

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

I went a half size larger than I wear in a shoe, so that my toes had a little wiggle room. At 1st they were a little hard to get on, but after stretching out the skins a little from wearing them, they're much easier now. I wear these boots with every outfit, even in colder weather (I live in Vermont) my feet stay warm and dry.. very stylish, and I get compliments ALL the time on them. It's my favorite boot I've ever had. Well worth the $$!

just as expected

By

from Atlanta, GA

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

I've been searching all over for these boots and finally found them restocked in my size on Sorel, now almost sold out again! Worth the extra few bucks for only 2 days shipping. I was initially concerned about the reviews stating that I needed to order a size up. Turns out they are true to size for me. In just trouser socks, my heel actually lifts a bit inside the boot when I step. And there's plenty of toe room. They are snug around the ankle, so they aren't easy to take off, but I expect them to stretch out a bit, as all my other boots have. Currently (ie. first day of wear), I can wear them with trouser socks and can "work" them off my foot. I anticipate that with wear, I can put on thicker socks if need be. In the South, we aren't so concerned with wearing wool socks with these things. They are not as bulky as I expected them to be and are attractive and straight/slim. They are not super tight around the calves and I still have an inch or so of room in the calf while wearing stretch pants, even after cinching them as tight as possible in the back. They arrived with scuff marks on the inside and outside of the top of the boots, which don't really bother me because I will probably scuff them up anyway. But I would have expected them to be "pristine" if I had bought them in the store, so I would expect no less from Sorel themselves. Overall I'm really happy with them!

If you live in a snowy city...

By

from Boston, MA

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

These are great for winters in the city. Stylish enough to wear to a meeting, tough enough to walk through a foot or more of snow, less slippery than similar boots, and comfy enough to wear around the office all day. They're not stiff like many other winter boots. They're pretty warm, too, though I recommend warm socks as they're not super insulated and may not keep you toasty if you're out for a long time. That said, my feet are *very* sensitive to the cold and I'm fine with these and a pair of good socks down to at least 20 degrees (haven't tested colder). I'm usually an 8.5/9, though I will often size up for winter boots, so I sized up to a 9.5 here and they are perfect. 10 years of searching for the perfect winter boot for me has finally paid off.

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

Just got these yesterday, threw them on and headed to the mountains. They are great looking, durable, and great quality. More rugged than I was expecting and a little baggy in the calf-area but overall awesome! I am a 7.5-8 and went with the 8 and they are perfect. I wore them with a standard Smartwool sock. I would say stick with the size you typically wear unless you are going to wear ridiculously thick socks.

stylish boot

By

from Undisclosed

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

I like this boot. I bought in "shale". It runs small. I normally wear a 9 sometimes 8.5 but I needed a 9.5 in this boot. I have narrow feet and feel the boot is too wide...so it isn't lack of width width that makes it run small but length. It's a little sloppy for me around the ankle but I think thicker socks will help. I like the look of the boot but I feel they are a bit overpriced...but I guess there are plenty of people willing to buy them anyway, shame on us! I loved these boots on line but my affection was knocked down a few degrees once I had them in hand :) Still keepers though!

Love these boots

By

from Wisconsin

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

I generally wear a 7/7.5 in shoes but with boots I always buy an 8 so I have room for thicker socks. I was a little worried by reading all the reviews that the boots run small. In my opinion, an 8 is a true to size 8. Upon first getting them the calf part of the boots was 'snug' but they break in a few hours, now they slip on so easily. And the people who make it seem like they are so hard to get off since they don't have zippers, I think that is silly. Maybe it's because I am an equestrian so I am used to tall boots with no zippers but they really aren't hard to get on and off. These boots are so stylish and work with work clothes or just jeans. I really wanted Charcoal or Shale but couldn't find them anywhere so I bought Cinnamon. Cinnamon is so much pretty in person than the photos. And they are WARM, I live in cold/snowy Wisconsin and they have been awesome.

Great boot

Comments about Sorel Slimpack Riding Tall Boots - Women's:

Great fit, waterproof, cute and functional. I actually get more compliments from men than from women because they notice it is a great boot. I can't give it five stars however because the color is not what I was expecting from the picture online - it's lighter and I'm not as in love with it. Still a great boot.
