We all hope to never have to use our beacons, but owning one (and knowing how to use it) are two musts for anyone chasing powder outside of the controlled ski area. Ortovox has created the ZOOM+ beacon with one thing in mind: ease of use. Its simple and intuitive design features only two buttons, minimizing the chance for error. Its Smart-Antenna Technology™ analyzes the position of the antennas after a slide comes to a stop, and automatically switches to the best one to maximize the transmitting range in the worst reception areas. If you are not the most tech-savvy individual, but still love deep snow and steep chutes, the easy-to-use Ortovox ZOOM+ Avalanche Beacon is for you!
Large Display – Located in the middle of the device, LEDs are used to show the distance to a buried victim, arrows for direction, and if there are multiple victims. The large LEDs are easy to read especially in dark or low visibility conditions.
Number of Antennas – 3
Maximum Range – 40m
Search Strip Width – 40m
Visual & Acoustic Search – The bright, easy-to-read Visual Search display is supported by Intuitive Search Acoustics. Higher and faster sounds tell you that you are approaching an avalanche victim.
Smart-AntennaTechnology™ – The integrated Smart-Antenna Technology™ analyzes the position of the beacon's antennas after an avalanche and automatically switches to the best transmission antenna. The result is almost double the range in the worst reception areas. Smart-Antenna Technology™ is compatible with all avalanche transceivers using the international standard 457kHz transmitter frequency.
Switchover – Equipped with the latest digital 3-antenna technology and a motion sensor, the transceiver will automatically revert to transmit mode in case of a secondary avalanche. If the transmitter registers no movement for more than 120 seconds while searching, it automatically switches back to transmission mode.
Close Search – At a distance of 2 meters or less from a victim, close search begins and an accurate distance reading is displayed. The directional arrow is deactivated.
Multiple-Victim Indicator – The display blinks when two victims are within close range (approx. 10m). At greater distances from the victims, the display is illuminated continuously.
Transmission Capacity – Approx. 250 hours
(1) AA Alkaline battery 1.5V LR06
Elastic hand-strap and comfortable bag
RECCO® Reflector Inside – RECCO® capability allows rescue professionals with the proper equipment to quickly find victims. This backup technology is used by patrollers and rescue teams worldwide, but is not a substitute for learning and training with your beacon. You will not be able to locate a RECCO® device using a 457kHz transceiver.
Beacons Require Training – Wearing an avalanche beacon is no guarantee of safety in avalanche terrain. We recommend that backcountry travelers take an AIARE Level One class or the equivalent, and practice the skills they learn there regularly with their partners.
