      Well, what can be said in a review of an avalanche beacon other than I hope never to find out how good it is.

      There is a reason why this is the most recommended beacon by patrol and rescue folks as well as AIARE curriculum providers. the BCA Tracker 2 is bulletproof and reliable. The on/off switch as well as the search controls, which are the only two on the unit, are solid and with a very positive action, which leaves you with no doubt of the status of the unit.

      I've been lucky to not test the Tracker 2 in a real rescue scenario, and luckier still not to find out how well it works when needing rescue, but in plenty of training exercises it has never faltered.

      My only gripe is that is is somewhat bulky and does not have shape that conducive to carrying it in any other way than with the supplied harness. I have a pair of ski pants that have a pocket specifically meant for a beacon, but with this unit, it is not a very comfortable way to go. This is a criticism that could probably be leveled at most beacons however.

      If you go in the backcountry at all, get one.

        Great beacon. Simple and effective. Doesn't have too many bells and whistles so less can go wrong. Make sure you practice with this beacon and take an avy class before you consider yourself ready for the backcountry. Pray for snow!

        I use this out in the Rocky Mountains in the harshest conditions. The BCA Tracker 2 can and will save your life if the need is present. The gps in this system is right on when used with another tracker. It is very simple to use when in an emergency and is very durable and will not break. I do not like how bulky it is though. Other than that, i love it.
