This vest definitely makes me feel safer. I don't worry as much about someone crushing into me from behind or falling on my back. The VPD material is flexible and snags great to the back, but also seems thick and strong enough to provide good protection. It doesn't limit my movements and I don't really notice it's there. I like the elastic waist belt that goes with it – it keeps nice pressure on my core and keeps the back protector in place. Just don't make it to tight; I get a bit of stomach ache when I do. Also, as long as you can find the right size (they offer quite a few including regular and slim fit), I find the vest to be easier than dealing with straps on some of the other protectors. The protector fills up the jacket slightly, which might be a bit of an issue with tight fit jackets but I suspect that to be the case with any spine protector.

I bought this for my 12 year old son who is on the freeride ski team at Mt. Bachelor. I was always worried about him doing the tricks he does without back protection so I bought this. Coincidentally, the first day he wore it he had a major fail on a rail and landed right on the rail in the middle of his back...he jumped right up with his hands in the air and yelled "that was awesome! it didnt hurt!". Thank you POC for making quality equipment/gear and EVO for making it affordable!
