Salomon Quest 14 Ski Boots 2012: The high performance all-mountain Salomon Quest 14 Ski Boots with magnesium Backbone technology combine proven Salomon skiing performance with comfortable hiking and walking and a 130 flex rating so you don’t have to make any sacrifices on the way down in order to get up.
Materials
PU Ether lower shell and PU Cuff: PU Ether is a high end PU that provides more rebound to the boot when used with a high level of constraints, like in World Cup Race for example.
Liner
My Custom Fit Race Liner for max customization with 3 compact layers of thermoformable foam on the ankle, heel, meta and tongue for perfect transmission
Additional Features
Backbone release, taken from the X-3 lab, is a Magnesium piece linking the cuff to the shell.
Salomon’s patented Ride & Hike technology combines the backbone release with a specific V-cut shape on the back of the lower shell. This allows wide rear cuff opening when hiking (backbone unlocked) and true alpine forward flex when skiing down (backbone locked) because the backside of the backbone fits precisely into the V-cut lower shell.
Cuff Shape
A reinforced rear, lateral insert enables the use of a softer front cuff for improved leg wrapping and progressive flex.
Double dismantle canting for perfect cuff alignment – allows boot fitters to work easily on the cuff.
Flex and Fit
A 130 flex provides tremendous power, precision, and control to expert skiers who push their equipment to the limit. A 100mm last is wide enough to be comfortable on the way up, but narrow enough to maintain precision on the way down.

Comments about Salomon Quest 14 Ski Boots 2012:

The perfect boot if you get out in the backcountry but ski more lift service. I ski lift service about 70% of the time, but still enjoy occasional treks in the backcountry or skinning up when the local hill's lifts aren't running. This is a nice stiff boot that performs fantastic on the downhill and works just fine on the uphill. I'd say it's only downside is it's a little heavier than a true AT boot, but I think the materials are better than a true AT boot. For me it's more about the downhill performance. I would disagree that this has a narrow toe box or is hard to get your foot into. The "groove clips" rotate slightly so that the buckle lines up just fine. That's not too difficult to figure out. First boot that's ever fit me perfect out of the box and I usually have the 6th toe issue. If you want fantastic performing boot when you're actually skiing and is just fine on the uphill, is very comfortable (I've got a narrower heal but am somewhat wide in the forefoot), this is a great boot. Oh, and as always, Evo is fantastic!

Comments about Salomon Quest 14 Ski Boots 2012:

Boot has a narrow toe box/foot bed, unlike the Quest 10 and 12 model. Can be a bit of a chore to get foot into boot, even w/ the tongue strap. Am not sure I am a fan of 3 buckle design. Do not know how well "massive" power strap will hold up as it - in essence - also acts as top buckle. Upper buckle very difficult to engage after stepping into boot, once first notch is engaged that is no longer a problem. Boot is listed as having 2 position forward lean - but that is not for skiing. One position is walking.
Am on the fence re recommending boot to friends. Some minor issues w/fit and ease of entry/buckling. Also read reviews questioning buckle integrity.

Comments about Salomon Quest 14 Ski Boots 2012:

the buckles on these things are strange. the 2nd buckle (heel) doesn't exactly line up with the groove clip, so when you open and close it...the center micro-adjust bar rubs against the mechanism. took the paint off the buckle clip before i even got it to the slopes. seems like it would eventually weaken the micro-adjust to the point of bending.
