Arrive at Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport by 10am local time on Sunday. If you would like to fly in a day early, we recommend arriving any time on Saturday and staying at the Holiday Inn at the airport. We will meet as a group just outside of Customs on the right hand side near the couches and coffee stand. Once we have located our group, we will travel by private coach to Las Trancas. This will be a 5-6 hour bus ride and we will stop for lunch and snack breaks along the way. Rest stops will have ATM access as well. We'll get into the Rocanegra Mountain Lodge late for dinner and check-in and get a good night’s sleep to prepare for our first day on the hill. You are responsible for lunch and snacks this night.
  • 2
Meet for breakfast at 7:30am to outline the day and get to know the group. Get ready and meet in the lobby by 8:30 for transfer to Nevados de Chillan. Folks are welcome to stay in the group or explore on their own. We'll identify a meeting spot for lunch and discuss the plan to return to the lodge. You'll have time to relax for the evening, order some snacks and jump in the hot tub before a 9pm dinner. You will be responsible for your lunch on this day.
  • 3
Repeat! Enjoy the 3KM Tres Marias run and practice riding the t-bar. Stop for lunch at the cabin at the top of the mountain: we recommend a completo and piscola. If you need something sweet, make sure to pick up alfajores (dulce de leche cookies) at the corner store on the way home from the mountain.
  • 4
Depending on the weather and the group’s needs, we will likely take this or the following day to rest. We will have the option of visiting a local hot spring, going on a short hike and/or enjoying a wine tasting with an area vineyard. If the weather is great, we could also spend five days on the mountain rather than four. You are responsible for your lunch and any wine purchases on this day.
  • 5
Following breakfast, we'll head back to the hill. If you're thirsting for more adventure, take a hike or hire a guide for a cat or heli-skiing adventure (cat skiing will be an addition cost of ~$60, heli skiing is available for $500 for three drops). You are responsible for your lunch on this day.
  • 6
Repeat! If the group is up for an adventure, we can visit the Loco Ocho and the discoteca to celebrate our last night in Las Trancas. You are responsible for your lunch on this day.
  • 7
Eat breakfast, pack up and check out by 9am. As a group, we will take a private coach to Santiago and check in at the Grand Hyatt. You'll have the day and night to explore Santiago. We will make a group dinner reservation and have recommendations, including a visit to the Museo de las Memoria y los Derechos Humanos, wander through Barrio Bella Vista, hike up San Cristóbal Hill and dance until the sun rises.
  • 8
Spend your last morning exploring Santiago. We will help coordinate transportation back to the airport via bus or train for those heading home. You are responsible for your breakfast and any snacks, as well as the cost of transportation around the city or to the airport on this day.

FAQ
FAQ
  • Can I choose my roommate?
Yes. If you have a roommate request, please let us know. By default, we will place two people per room, but we may have the ability to place 3 or 4 together as well.
  • Can I book a private room?
Yes. Single occupancy rooms may be available at an additional cost of $600. Please contact us if you are interested.
  • I am a beginner / intermediate / advanced level of skier / snowboarder. Will there be terrain for me?
Yes. All levels of skiers and snowboarders are welcome. You don’t need to be an advanced or expert skier or snowboarder to have a good time on this trip. However, if you are an expert you won’t be disappointed because there is terrain for everyone. Ski the resort, the parks or if the conditions are right there are plentiful backcountry options. Spend time with the group or do your own thing.
  • Are rentals available or do I need to bring my own equipment?
We recommend that you bring your own gear. There are rentals available at a local snow shop and at the mountain, unfortunately there is not a list of rental equipment available and we cannot guarantee that you will have access to specific sizes or brands. Avalanche safety equipment is required for backcountry riding and heliskiing, and rentals are available at an additional cost (approximately $15/day).
  • Can I (or my partner) come even if I don’t ski or snowboard?
Yes. The primary activity on these trips is skiing or snowboarding; however, there may be options if you or your loved one does not currently participate. There is an English-speaking ski school at Nevados de Chillan; you can sign up for lessons and rentals at an additional cost (we can help book this). For folks not interested in learning to ski / snowboard, there are limited opportunities for other activities and the location is beautiful and relaxing. If they would still like to come, we can provide an additional $250 discount. We may be able to help coordinate other activities, such as visits to a spa, yoga or snow shoeing.
  • What is included in this trip?
This trip includes: - Transportation by private coach from the airport to Rocanegra Lodge and from Rocanegra to the coast and back to Santiago. - Six nights stay at Rocanegra Lodge and one night at a hotel in Santiago. - All breakfasts and dinners at Rocanegra Lodge and one group dinner lunch and a wine tasting from Santa Berta Vineyard. - Five lift tickets for at Nevados de Chillan. - Recommendations for food / drink and entertainment in Santiago.
  • What is NOT included in this trip?
    - Airfare – you will cover your own airfare for the trip and costs associated with traveling with your equipment. You must arrive at Arturo Benitez Santiago Airport by 10:00am on the first day of the trip. - Most lunches and any beverages with meals, any additional expenses at the lodge– we will provide recommendations, but any expenses will be out of pocket. - Transportation from the hotel in Santiago to the airport (options include bus or taxi and cost approximately $15). - Taxi rides or any transportation in Santiago. - We highly recommend that you purchase travel insurance to protect your flight and belongings. - Private guides, cat skiing or heli skiing opportunities (range from $75-$500). - Any rentals of ski, snowboard and safety equipment.
  • Will we be able to wash our clothes?
Yes. Rocanegra can provide laundry services for a small fee.
  • I am going to come early / stay longer; can I do something with my gear?
There are storage lockers available at the airport, or the hotel in Santiago may be able to hold luggage for limited periods. We are happy to help coordinate this.
  • I am gluten-free / vegetarian / halal/kosher… will there be food options available for me?
Yes, and… For meals provided by the lodge/evo (breakfasts and dinners), there will be options available for both. It will be easy to avoid gluten. Being a vegetarian in Chile is easy, but not necessarily delicious. We do recommend that you bring snacks along just in case. While there are no Halal restaurants in Las Trancas, there will be many meal options available by avoiding meat. Similarly, while there are no Kosher restaurants in Las Trancas, there will be many meal options available by avoiding meat. We do recommend that you bring some snacks just in case.
  • What if I need to cancel?
    - The deposit for the trip is non-refundable and cancellations will be subject to a cancellation fee (see policy below). For this reason, we recommend you consider purchasing travelers insurance, which will cover the cost of your trip in extenuating circumstances. - All cancellations must be submitted to the Company in writing, are effective as of the date we receive them according to our internal records, and will be subject to a cancellation fee as follows (amounts are per person and only apply to amount paid after the non-refundable deposit amount): - Cancellation 60 days or more prior to trip departure - Non-Refundable Deposit - Cancellation between 30 and 59 days prior to trip departure - 50% of total booking cost - Cancellation less than 30 days prior to departure - 100% of total booking cost - Cancellation policy for custom trips may differ from these terms and will be communicated prior to booking - No refunds will be made if you voluntarily leave a trip for any reason after the trip has begun. No refunds will be made for any accommodation, transport, sightseeing, meals or services not utilized.
  • Can I just pay the full amount now? // When is the full amount due?
Yes. You can pay the full amount now, but we will consider $1,000 to be a non-refundable deposit in accordance with the contract. The full payment is due 60 days prior to departure.
  • When and how do I meet up with the group?
You are responsible for booking your own travel and you must arrive at the Santiago airport by 10:00 am on the first day of your trip. We will be waiting with an evo sign in the terminal just outside of customs.

A special group of individuals at times come together. Chile was one of these times. It's difficult to describe, such different people with diverse backgrounds. The level of conscience that ran through it all amazed me and others as well.
