Krippenstein & Dachstein REGION

Austria is where the heart of snowsports beats most strongly, and you’ll know it as soon as you set foot in this country. Krippenstein is a charming town near Salzburg with access to terrain that’s suitable for all levels of riders – from easy groomers at Dachstein West to breathtaking earn-your-turns riding on the Dachstein Glacier.

Krippenstein-Obertraun is a freerider’s paradise; full of steeps, cliffs and technical challenges. We’ll be riding with a guide here, and a beacon, probe and shovel are essential – this area calls for advanced riding skills and as in many parts of Europe, avalanche control is minimal so some backcountry experience is helpful.

For a mellower experience or those with more moderate skills, Dachstein West and Gosau offer a more typical resort experience with great groomed riding and awesome on-mountain services and dining.  You’ll also find mogul and terrain parks here.

Lift-served glacier skiing is rare outside Europe, and the Dachstein Glacier is a great introduction to this type of riding. Touring skis or splitboard setups are not required, but many of the most rewarding runs require a “small hike” to access the goods - unparalleled above-treeline riding and magnificent alpine scenery are the rewards for your efforts. Come prepared for some physical exertion and bring a versatile layered outfit that can be adjusted as needed.
