Trip Planning

Trip Planning

Be sure your bicycle and equipment measure up to the terrain of Ride The Rockies. You will likely encounter several multi mile passes with grades averaging 6-7%. A well tuned, lightweight multi speed bicycle is necessary to climb the mountain passes you’ll encounter during the Tour. If you’re uncertain if your bike will make the grade, stop by our Denver location for a check-up!

FAQ
FAQ
  • How do I sign up?
SOS Outreach has 10 guaranteed entries to this year’s ride! To receive one of these coveted spots and BYPASS the lottery, you are required to register with us and raise (or donate) a minimum of $2,000 for SOS Outreach. Joining the team is first come first served! Email Becca ([email protected]) to join the invite list. SOS will support you in making your donation and/or fundraising for your space.
  • Can I choose my roommate / book a private room?
Yes, based on availability. Yes. If you have a roommate request, please let us know. By default, we will place two people per room with two beds, but we may have the ability to place 3 or 4 together as well. Single Occupancy rooms may be available at an additional cost of $400. Please check in with Customer Care before booking if this will determine your participation.
  • What is NOT included in this trip?
Transportation: you will cover your own airfare for the trip as well as any costs associated with transfering your bicycle. Most lunches and dinners. We recommend that you purchase travel insurance to protect your flight and belongings as well as cover medical expenses. We recommend planning to spend $300 on meals, drinks and extras.
  • What gear should I bring?
You can find a complete gear list above. We recommend bringing your own bike, however our Denver store does have some rentals available for this trip.
  • Will we be able to wash our clothes?
Yes, though there will not be daily laundry access.
  • What do I do with my bike each night?
You'll use the Ride the Rockies Bike Corral at the HQ site! Each town will have a bike corral with volunteers keeping a watchful eye from 10:00 a.m. on the day of arrival until 9:00 a.m. on the day of departure. Security will ensure that the bike tag number on your bike matches the wristband number you’ve been assigned. No one will be allowed to remove a bike from the corral without proper identification. We recommend you bring a lock for use at other locations. NOTE: Ouray will provide a bike Corral on June 14 for participants staying in lodging properties. However, RTR will not transport bikes from Ridgway to Ouray or Ouray to Ridgway on buses. This means that, should you choose to stop in Ouray on June 14 instead of finishing in Ridgway, you are responsible for riding your bike on June 15 from Ouray, or getting your bike to the start in Ridgway via your own transportation. RTR route support will be available to participants that ride their bikes from Ouray on June 15.
  • What if I need to cancel?
The deposit for the trip is non-refundable and cancellations will be subject to a cancellation fee (see policy below). For this reason, we recommend you consider purchasing travelers insurance, which will cover the cost of your trip in extenuating circumstances. All cancellations must be submitted to evo in writing, are effective as of the date we receive them according to our internal records, and will be subject to a cancellation fee as follows (amounts are per person and only apply to amount paid after the non-refundable deposit amount): Cancellation 60 days or more prior to trip departure - Non-Refundable Deposit. Cancellation between 30 and 59 days prior to trip departure - 50% of total booking cost. Cancellation less than 30 days prior to departure - 100% of total booking cost. Cancellation policy for custom trips may differ from these terms and will be communicated prior to booking No refunds will be made if you voluntarily leave a trip for any reason after the trip has begun. The same applies if you leave a trip or cannot fully participate in a trip due to injury or illness. Refunds will be at the discretion of the Company if you are involuntarily forced to leave a trip for any reason. No refunds will be made for any accommodation, transport, sightseeing, meals or services not utilized.

  • Why should I get involved / Why SOS Outreach?
“Before SOS, I saw no future, and I didn’t know who I was. I was constantly putting myself down and it was hard to find a reason to be happy. But all that’s changed because of SOS. My [mentor] group has helped me become a stronger, new me. Not only do I smile but I now reach out for help instead of holding it in... SOS is not only an organization for kids, but a rescue center for most.” - Elizabeth, 4-year SOS-Denver participant For 23 years SOS Outreach has transformed the lives of 50,000 youth like Elizabeth. Through programs steeped in outdoor adventure, SOS creates opportunities for 3,700+ Colorado youth to cultivate relationships, foster community, and unleash their potential to thrive. Join evoTrip in supporting this great cause to shape the next generation of our communities.
  • I can't come, but I want to help...
This year, 10 members will ride 447 miles with over 2,000 cyclists in this year’s Ride the Rockies sponsored by the Denver Post. That’s a team total of 4,470 miles!
